Our captaincy article helps you choose the right captain for the upcoming game week. This year I am again using my experience and data from the RMT Adviser’s algorithm to make my recommendations.
Harry Kane and a double game week (DGW) is usually a recipe for success so it seems to make sense to start this week with the Spurs front man.
On paper the 2 fixtures for Spurs are not the best with games against Manchester City and Brighton but it is Harry Kane and he can make trouble for any side.
Spurs have become strong finishers to the season and they have mastered the art of winning the “put a bit of pressure on the top team” trophy and Harry Kane is usually a big reason for that. A man who is that desperate to claim a goal to help him towards winning the Golden Boot is not to be taken lightly, especially in a DGW!
Kane’s personal record against City and Brighton is not the best with just 2 goals and 1 assist in 7 matches but then last week he went in to the Stoke game having terrorised them in the past and ended up with nothing.
As a non owner I will be backing City and Brighton to snuff him out but I wont be enjoying the games while they are taking place. I will definitely be thinking “come on Mauricio rest Kane for the FA Cup Semi Final”.
Romelu Lukaku/Alexis Sanchez
The chances are that many of you will have one of these two players in your sides for this week and when you look at the fixtures that makes perfect sense. United have a home game against West Brom and then a trip to Bournemouth a few days later.
Lukaku has risen in ownership over the last few weeks thanks to his good form and comes into this double game week as one of the top two candidates for the armband this weekend and his personal record against this weeks opposition is also fantastic with 11 goals and 3 assists in 13 games against WBA and Brighton.
Sanchez has returned double figure scores in United’s last 2 matches thanks to a goal, 3 assists and 5 bonus points. Given that he is so low owned going in to this game week with just 3.8% ownership Sanchez is the ultimate differential this week.
Out of the two of them I would probably lean towards Lukaku based on previous performances against his DGW opponents (Sanchez has 6 goals in 12 appearances vs these two sides).
Mr. Set and Forget is back in the captain’s article. While Salah may not have a double gameweek he does have a home game with a Bournemouth side that is not exactly renowned for keeping clean sheets.
Salah has repeatedly shown that he is capable of big scores regardless of the opposition so those of you who sold him last week or even this week will be watching this game from behind the sofa.
If there is a single game week player who could top the popular DGW players then it is this man.
With several sides having a DGW this week there are many candidates who could be realistic armband contenders. The players I’ve featured are by no means the be all and end all of the choices but they are my top picks.
If you are fancying someone different then you could definitely go looking towards Leicester; specifically Jamie Vardy or Riyad Mahrez, while Chelsea pair Marcos Alonso and Willian are going to be popular picks in people’s FPL squads.
Spurs showed last week that Harry Kane is not the be all and end all of Spurs assets; Christian Eriksen has been in sparkling FPL form lately and we cannot discount their other midfielders, Dele Alli and my squad memeber Son. All three of these players are more than capable of producing big returns.
So those are my thoughts for this week, hopefully everyone gets some good Captain points this week, just a few less than mine.
