Lukaku, Sanchez, Alli and Sigurdsson in Captain Picks for game week 29

Our captaincy article is back to help you choose the right captain for game week 28. This year we are using data from the RMT Adviser’s algorithm and our experience to make our recommendations.

Rate My Team Adviser’s algorithm picks

Romelu Lukaku (5.8 projected points)

Top of the RMT Adviser’s algorithm list this week is Everton Striker Lukaku, Lukaku rewarded those who captained him with a goal and assist last weekend and a game at home to Hull looks like it has the potential for similar returns this week. The Belgian forward has been a consistent source for returns in his recent home matches having produced attacking returns in his last 5 home matches (8 goals and 2 assists). While Hull have been playing pretty well under their new coach they have to be considered under dogs this week as Everton are on a good run and have set their sights on catching Manchester United in 6th place.

The Adviser’s algorithm has come up with the following goal projections: 0 goals 53.8%, 1 goal 36%, 2 goals 8.4%, 3 goals 1.4%. Lukaku is likely to be the number 1 captaincy choice this week and is probably the safest bet for those of you who are looking to consolidate their rankings. If you are chasing someone then perhaps you may want to consider a different captain and hope that Lukaku’s good home run comes to an end this weekend.

Alexis Sanchez (5.4 projected points)

The Chilean finds his way straight back on to this list as the Adviser’s 2nd top pick for captain this week. Having been sold by a lot of fpl managers due to Arsenal’s recent double blank Sanchez may be a little bit of a differential among “live” fpl teams and is about to go on a run of great looking fixtures. Up this week is a trip to West Brom who have been conceding goals regularly in recent weeks (8 in the last 4).

Sanchez is the top point scorer in fpl and despite his recent frustrations with Arsenals struggles in the Champions League there is no way Arsenal can do without him so I would expect his benching against Liverpool to be a 1 time only deal and he will be back in the side to spearhead the annual charge to the finish line in 3rd or 4th place.

Here are the Adviser’s goals projections for Sanchez this week; 0 goals 63.8%, 1 goal 30%, 2 goals 5.8%, 3 goals 0.2%. I’ve a sneaky feeling that now is the time to grab Sanchez back in and he really is a sneaky captaincy option this week as the masses go Lukaku while there will be many managers who will find it tricky to fit the Arsenal man back in their teams.

Fergie’s picks

Gylfi Sigurdsson

Siggy is probably Swansea’s most influential and important player and key to their survival hopes. I’m tipping him as a captain candidate due to his extended run of returns- his last blank game back in game week 21 vs Arsenal. Siggy has returned an assist in each of his last 4 game weeks and I do fancy him to get on the score sheet this weekend against a defensively porous Bournemouth side. Swansea will be desperate to bounce back from last week’s poor result against Hull and while playing away to Bournemouth won’t be easy it is a game that I expect goals in.
Siggy is on all set piece duty for the Swans and his delivery is excellent giving him a great chance of at least popping up with an assist. While he may not be an outstandingly obvious captain choice I do feel he might be a safe one and I wouldn’t be at all surprised if he pops up with a double digit score this weekend.

Dele Alli (4.99 projected points)

The Spurs midfielder has been in red hot form in the last few months and continued in this rich form with a goal in the cup last weekend to follow up his double digit score in the previous round of fpl matches. Spurs are at home to Southampton this week and I’m sure Alli will maintain his exception run (only 3 blanks in 11 game weeks).

Spurs may struggle a little without the injured Kane to lead the line for them over the next few weeks but I reckon this will be a chance to push Alli even higher up the pitch where he will have more chances than usual to maintain his goal scoring form.

  1. Tempted by Alli as Im chasing but think I should play safe for now.Lukaku before I wildcard him out.

  2. Had it set to Lukaku all week but just changed to Siggy, think Lukaku might get booed at home this week…Everton fans are displeased.

  3. Hi folks

1FT. Was thinking of doing either Crouch to Gabbi, or Holebas to Spurs defender (just found out Walker is yellow flagged, so not sure who to pick if I go with the second option).

Or do nothing and roll the FT since there is an international break coming?
