Sanchez, Ibrahimović, Jesus and Sigurðsson in Captain Picks for game week 25

Our captaincy article is back to help you choose the right captain for game week 25. This year we are using data from the RMT Adviser’s algorithm and our experience to make our recommendations.

Rate My Team Adviser’s algorithm picks

Alexis Sanchez

We begin this week with a very familiar name in these articles.. Alexis Sanchez. The Adviser’s algorithm seems to have a never ending supply of confidence in Arsenal’s main man and to be fair he rarely disappoints having secured attacking returns in 9 of the last 10 game weeks.

Sanchez is likely to be a popular candidate for captain this week due to a good looking home fixture against Hull (against whom he has a great record with 5 goals and an assist in his last 3 league games), it will take a brave fpl manager to look elsewhere, however, Hull have certainly been a lot more resilient recently having shut out both Manchester United and Liverpool in the last 2 game weeks.

My gut feeling is that Arsenal will get back on track this week following a couple of poor results and displays against both Watford and Chelsea and Hull will have to be at their very best to keep them out. The Adviser’s algorithm projects Sanchez at a massive 8 points across its simulations with high goal projections too- 1 goal in 35%, 2 goals in 12.2% and 3 goals in 2.4% of all simulations.

Zlatan Ibrahimović

The RMT Adviser’s next pick for captaincy proves once and for all, without a shadow of a doubt that it has zero imagination! It doesn’t take a genius to throw in Zlatan for captaincy against Watford at Old Trafford but in fairness to the RMT Adviser Zlatan is also a fantastic captain pick for this week. An average projected point’s score of 6.31 puts the United striker comfortably in second place in the Adviser’s projected scores for this week. It is worth noting that anything over 6 points is considered very, very good (making Sanchez at 8 points virtually unheard of).

Zlatan’s goals projections are also very good this week with 1 goal in 37% of simulations, 2 goals in 11.4% and 3 goals in 2.2%. Zlatan has form with 6 goals and 3 assists in his last 8 game weeks so it certainly makes sense if you are looking to put the captain armband on him this weekend. Manchester United have struggled at home at times this season struggling to convert possession and goal attempts in to goals, they should get plenty of chances to improve on that this weekend which will mean plenty of opportunities for Zlatan to rack up fpl points through either goals or assists.

My picks

Gabriel Jesus

I shall refrain from using any of the numerous puns that have been rolled out this week when talking about Jesus but it is fair to say that he has made a huge impact in his short City career so far. Last weekend’s match winner and hero with 2 goals against Swansea came hot on the heels of another strong performance against West Ham where he registered a goal and assist making him fpl’s hottest commodity.

This weekend sees City face a Bournemouth defence which has been absolutely atrocious this season and has been shipping goals at an alarming rate culminating in letting in 6(six) last weekend against Everton.

It would also appear that Jesus has displaced former fpl golden boy Sergio Aguero in the pecking order to play as the central striker in the City attack which makes this fixture even more appealing to give Jesus the armband. Personally I remain a little sceptical when it comes to Pep and his team selections because he does seem to like to throw the odd curveball or 2 and will randomly bench players when you least expect it. City are likely to have a couple of blank game weeks coming up which may lessen his appeal but if you have enough in your squads to cover for him or at least have an easy exit strategy then Jesus is well worth picking up this week and is most certainly a great captain option.

Gylfi Sigurðsson

26 points in his last 3 games including away games against Liverpool and Chelsea, no blank game weeks and this week is at home to a struggling Leicester side…. Not only is Siggy a great transfer in this week but also a very decent captain option.

I really fancy Siggy to add to his 8 goals and 7 assists so far this season and he has the stats to suggest he will- he averages over 3 shots per game and provides 1.6 key passes per game, takes the vast majority of Swansea set pieces and is on penalties so if Swansea are to score then Siggy is very likely to be involved.

Swansea have shown real signs of revival in recent games under their new coach and suddenly don’t look relegation certainties, the same cannot be said for this weekend’s opponents however as Leicester have lost their last 4 league games and are yet to register a league goal this calendar year. Giving him the armband may be a little risky especially as there would appear to be more obvious alternatives on paper but if you want someone with both form and fixture then he really is worth consideration.
