Fantasy MLS Game week 29 Review and Game Week 30 Preview

We take a look at who performed well last week and who to buy this week in MLS. Don’t forget it’s a Friday deadline this week.

Looking back at GW 29

Chicago Fire managed another draw at home against D.C. United. Vincent opened the scoring in the 19th minute but two minutes later Cocis equalised for the host. Not long after that Accam made it two. For much of the remaining game, it looked like Chicago would win. It wasn’t to be though, as Boswell equalised in the last seconds of injury time. Score: 2-2

Seattle Sounders won by the odd goal at home against Vancouver Whitecaps. The first half and most of the second went with hardly any action. In the 81st minute Morris scored the only goal of the game for the host. Score: 1-0.

Portland Timbers managed to win at home against Philadelphia Union. The first half was uneventful. Valeri scored in the first minute of the second half, but a minute later Pontius equalised. The winning goal came from Adi. Score: 2-1.

New York City and FC Dallas shared a point each. McNamara scored in the beginning of the game but not long after Urruti equalised. In 52nd minute Barrios gave the lead to the guests but late on Shelton levelled the game. Score: 2-2.

Montreal Impact was dismantled at home by New England Revolution. In the first minute of the game Kamara opened the scoring. That was followed by a second goal from Goncalves . Drogba pulled one back from a penalty but in the 59th minute Rowe scored the third. Score: 1-3.

Orlando City got destroyed at home by Columbus Crew. Finlay opened the scoring in the 6th minute. That was followed by an own goal from Hines. A minute before the end of the first half Kamara scored the second for the visitors. Larin scored the consolation goal but before the end of the game, Kamara scored his second goal. Score: 1-4.

Colorado Rapids totally blanked at home against San Jose Earthquakes. In the first half the host had a few great opportunities but they missed them. Things changed in the second half when the visitors dominated the game but they drew blanks. Score: 0-0.

Real Salt Lake had a frustrating home game as they lost to Houston Dynamo. The entire first half was very slow. In the 36th minute Alex scored the only goal of the game. The second half went in the same fashion. Score: 0-1.

We witnessed 10 goals in the last two games of the round.

Toronto FC was visited by New York Red Bulls. It was a bad start for the host when Beitashour scored an own goal. Bradley Wright-Philips scored a goal in each half. Bradley scored for the host as well. Towards the end of the match Toronto became livelier and Altidore levelled the score with a brace. Score: 3-3.

Sporting Kansas City shared the points with LA Galaxy. The visitors opened the scoring with a goal from Gordon in the 7th minute. That was all for the first half. In the second half Petersen and Dwyer scored for the host. Just when SKC thought they had won the game, Donovan scored his first goal since he returned from retirement. Score: 2-2.

Looking ahead to GW 30

Just another ordinary game week, in which we don’t have to worry about byes or doubles. In rounds like this we don’t get many rotations. Let’s hope this is the case.

New York City FC ( W 12 D 9 L 9) vs Chicago Fire ( W 6 D 9 L 13)

The Blues are still fighting for the top place in the East. Villa blanked for a second week in a row. I will keep him for this week only because the game looks easy on paper. Lampard was taken off with an injury in the first half.

The Fire is back in the bottom of East. They haven’t found any form this season. Cocis has now five goals. Accam and Alvarez score now and again. The new star is De Leeuw, who is now injured. The intrigue is that they have a double in GW31 and play in GW32 with just five other teams.

Toronto FC ( W 13 D 8 L 8) vs Philadelphia Union ( W 11 D 8 L11)

Toronto is still top in the Eastern. They seem to be doing well without their star player Gio. Altidore stepped into his shoes and has scored in the last six appearances. He has now eight goals and four assists. There were rumours that Gio would be back last week, but it didn’t happen. We need to monitor to see if he be ready for this round.

The Union are with two wins, a draw and two lost in the last five games. I got rid of Pontius and he went on to score. I am still not interested in any of these players.

D.C. United ( W 7 D 13 L 9) vs Orlando City SC ( W 7 D 13 L 9)

United are losing the plot. They have just two wins in their last thirteen games. Neagle doesn’t play many full time games but still has six goals. Acosta has become extremely inconsistent. After the hat-trick four weeks ago, Mullins has done nothing. So take your pick, the team will play twice in GW31.

The Lions shamefully lost 1-4 at home against the Crew. That was their second loss in a row. Kaka blanked for the second week as well. The only goal came from Larin who looks to be in form.

New York Red Bulls (W 12 D 9 L 9) vs Montreal Impact (W 9 D 11 L 9)

The Bulls are just two points behind the leaders Toronto in the East. They are unbeaten in the last thirteen games, with wins in five of those. Bradley Wright-Phillips now has 20 goals after his brace at the weekend, which makes him the leader in the Golden Boot race. After few weeks of being quiet, Kljestan is back with assist.

These are not good times for the Impacts with three winless games. To let in three goals at home against NE is not a good sign. Drogba scored his second goal in 3 games, but I wouldn’t risk him. I have no idea what’s wrong with Piatti but he blanked for a third week in row.

Vancouver Whitecaps ( W 9 D 7 L 14) vs Colorado Rapids ( W 12 D 11 L 5)

After a surprise win last time the Caps are back to losing again. No players for me from this team.

The Rapids are still second in the West, but have just one win in the last six games. Cronin and Le Toux are trying hard but it doesn’t work. Gashi played only 28 minutes. Let’s hope thing improve as they are one of the few team in round 32 and will play twice.

Houston Dynamo ( W 6 D 11 L 11) vs Portland Timbers ( W 11 D 8 L 11)

Despite the surprise win The Dynamos are still bottom in the West. The only player at moment worthy of attention is Alex. He has three goals in the last three games. Luckily I got him last week. This team will play twice in GW 32.

The Timbers won for a second game in a row. Valeri scored but I still don’t trust him. Adi scored for a second week. He now has fourteen goals. After this game they are playing Colorado away.

Real Salt Lake ( W 12  D 8 L 10) vs FC Dallas ( W 15 D 7 L 8)

RSL have lost their last two games. Since Plata had a brace and assist three weeks ago, he has totally blanked. Jorales has been awful for ages and is now injured. Since the brace four weeks ago there has been just one assist from Yura.

Despite two winless games Dallas is still at the top of the West. Urruti finally scored after such a long time. You know the rest Diaz, Barrios and Acosta.

San Jose Earthquakes ( W 7 D 13 L 8) vs Sporting Kansas City ( W 11 D 7 L 12)

The Quakes are on a five games winless streak. Wondolowski scored two weeks ago but maybe that is his lot for another 2 – 3 rounds. The tricky part is they will play twice in GW31. Let’s see what will happen before then.

SKS drew and increased their chances for a play-off spot. Dwyer is back in form and had two goals and an assist in the last two games. Failhaber is back as well with a goal and four assists in the last five. Petersen has been very active with three goals and two assists in the last four games.

LA Galaxy ( W 11 D 15 L 4) vs Seattle Sounders FC ( W 10 D 5 L 13)

The Galaxy are second in the Western Conference. Keane blanked in the last game. After a few stormy rounds, sadly Dos Santos was declared injured for the last round. Many managers were left disappointed. Gerrard is still marked injured.

The Sounders have lost only once in last eight games. Dempsey has been out for the last four weeks. Lets hope he gets better for the double. The show for now is run by Lodeiro who only assisted but still generated thirteen points and put a smile on the faces of those who captained him, including me.

Columbus Crew SC ( W 6 D 11 L 11) vs New England Revolution ( W 9 D 9 L 12 )

After two dismal rounds the Crew won, and it was big 1-4 win against Orlando away from home. After a goal in the previous game, Kamara scored a brace and an assist. He is truly back. Finlay is finally showing signs of life. They have two games in GW31 against Chicago, home away. That means Ola is a must have.

The Revs are now with three consecutive wins. The last one was good victory 3-1 against Montreal away. After such a long dry period Kamara got back with a goal. The other players scoring sporadically are Nguyen, Rowe and Fagundez if you fancy any from this team.

Captain Projections

  1. Villa at home against Chicago who we know how great they are on the road.
  2. BWP at home against the sinking Impacts.
  3. Giovinco (if he is back) at home against a three games without a win Philadelphia.
  4. Dos Santos (if he is back) at home against inconsistent Seattle.

Notes for your Diary

This is the last chance to shape your team for the big DGW 31. The teams playing twice are: Montreal, Chicago, Toronto, San Jose, Orlando, Seattle, DC United and Columbus.

Deadline: 23.09 20:00 EDT  – 01:00 AM BST

Best of luck to all FFF Managers.

Not too bad considering capo fail on BWP and Sacha only scoring 4
Put too much trust in Bulls who failed to deliver
