Fantasy MLS Gameweek 26 Review and Gameweek 27 Preview

It was a short and quick round. A round in which Kei Kamara scored his first hat-trick and Nguyen was awarded four assists. We witnessed the second time in a row home failure for Montreal and the return of LA after a long dismal streak. There were only four games but many managers crossed the 100 points mark.

Gameweek 26 Review

Montreal Impact lost for a second time in a row at home, this time to Chicago Fire and failed to score for a first time at the Saputo Stadium in 21 games. After a goalless first half the second didn’t start well for the host when Boldor received a red card on debut. Initially it was yellow but after VAR introduction went into red. Schweinsteiger scored the only goal 0-1.

New England Revolution completely shutout Orlando City. Kei Kamara had a hat-trick and Nguyen was involved in all goals. Bunbury scored in injury time to make it 4-0.

FC Dallas salvaged a point at home against New York Red Bulls playing most of the game with a man down. In the 37th minute Hayes was sent off and few minutes later Kljestan put the visitors on the scoring board. Early in the second half Grana equalised but that lasted short before Long scored. In the 75th minute the host was awarded a penalty executed by Diaz to to level the game at 2-2.

LA Galaxy ended a 149 days winless home streak with a comfortable win over Colorado Rapids. The host took the lead in the 18th minute with a goal from a penalty kick by Alessandrini. Five minutes later Boateng scored another one assisted by Zardes who early in the second half scored himself to finish the game 3-0.

Gameweek 27 Preview

We are getting back to normal and warming up with a small DGW followed by two bigger ones before the arrival of the biggest ever. This week two teams will play twice: New York City FC and Sporting Kansas City. The first with two home games and the other with two games on the road. It will be another short turnaround and it will be like this for the next three rounds with deadlines on Wednesday.

NYCFC ( W 14 D 5 L 7 ) vs SKC ( W 10 D 10 L 5 )

This will be a very intriguing game. The host will be without several key players due to international duties. Wallace, Ring and Herrera are unlikely to be back for this one. Villa is reported to be injured during training on Sunday in the Spanish camp. We need to monitor the extend of the injury. Moralez, Harrison, Callens, Sweat or Lewis will be still available to pick if you wish.

Sporting is not one of the best teams on the road with just to wins and six goals scored. At the same time the conceded goals are the least in the league, only 11. The only two players missing for this game will be Besler and Zusi. Opara, Medranda or Sinovic will be still around. Benny and Gerso should be considered as well.

CHI ( W 13 D 5 L 9 ) vs NYRB ( W 12 D 4 L 10 )

These two teams are still in playoff positions. The host will fight to retain the third spot while the Bulls will be aiming to move closer to them. The win against MTL last week should inspire the Fire to finish the season in a way they started it. The visitors could be heading for their third draw in a row as Chicago still hold a good home record. You need to decide from the usual suspects like Accam, Niko, Bastian or the returning from international duties Dax. BWP and Kljestan have been playing well together lately.

TOR ( W 16 D 8 L 3 ) vs SJ ( W 10 D 6 L 11 )

The Canadians are in the middle of one of the best times ever unbeaten in nine consecutive games. Their Supporters Shield place is almost sure with nine points clear at the top with seven games to go. The home record is immaculate, no team has won a game at the BMO Field this year yet. The star player Giovinco can be forgiven for his ups and downs during the summer as he is fully back with 4 goals in the last 3 games. Of course there are Jozy, Bradley and Vazquez as well to choose from.

Let’s be honest here, the Quakes don’t have a chance in this one. They did win away to LA but we all know why. The previous win on the road was more than two months ago against Dallas. If you don’t have better ideas you can try Wondolowski.

NYCFC vs POR ( W 11 D 8 L 9 )

All the missing NYCFC players from the first game should be back, providing there were no other injures apart from Villa.

The Timbers have found form in the last few weeks, winning three in the last five games. Caleb Porter has created a good balance in midfield which seems to be working well. Valeri is in a great form at the moment. He has scored in each of the last six games. It will be hard not to consider him with 16 goals and 9 assists.

DCU ( W 8 D 4 15 L ) vs ORL ( W 8 D 7 L 12 )

The Capital men have struggled for most of the season but surprisingly they ended with three consecutive wins. The first two with own goals from their opponents and the third one for real. I doubt their luck will continue for long.

This will be the first of four games on the road for the Lions and things are not looking well without a win in the last eight games. This match-up is best to be ignored.

NE ( W D L ) vs MTL ( W 10 D 6 L 10 )

This will be an interesting game between a team coming on the back of big win and a team who lost in two consecutive home games. It’s easy to predict that Kamara and Nguyen will remain in many teams. It has to be noted Bunbury had three goals in the last four. Nemeth made his debut with an assist and looked promising. As for the visitors, it will be interesting to see how many will still trust Piatti.

MIN ( W 7 D 4 L 14 ) vs PHI ( W 8 D 7 L 12 )

The Loons remain unpredictable but that maybe is what can be expected from a new franchise. The away win to Chicago took many by surprise. While Ramirez has been out with injury Danladi had three goals including a brace in the last game. Another not expensive player is Ibson who generates points at late.

Philly are not doing well in this important part of the season. They have picked up just two points in the last four games. Looking at the away record they might find this a difficult game to get the maximum points. Non of their big stars like Medunjanin, Sapong or Pontius have shown any signs of good form at late.

HOU ( W 10 D 8 L 8 ) vs COL ( W 6 D 4 L 16 )

The Dynamo need to act urgently if they are to have place in the playoffs. They need to start converting the draws into wins. With an excellent record at BBVA Compass this game shouldn’t be a problem on paper. After a brace and an assist Torres must be trusted in this one. Alex, Machado or Leonardo could be useful in this time.
It’s hard to find anything positive about the Rapids, best to move on.

VAN ( W 11 D 5 L 9 ) vs RSL ( W 10 D 5 L 13 )

This Cascadia Derby will be an interesting event between two teams which have improved in the last couple of months. Back in April RSL won comfortably at home but will they be lucky again as visitors. There will be few goals for sure. Rusnak has been outstanding in the last few games. Plata and Montero worth mentioning as well.

CLB ( W 13 D 3 L 12 ) vs SKC

The Crew are doing well with three wins in the last five games. They went above Chicago and the next aim is to catch NYC. Ola and Meram are recommended for this game. Considering the visitors a clean sheet won’t be a surprise. SKC covered above.

ATL ( W 10 D 6 L 8 ) vs DAL ( W 9 D 10 L 7 )

After a good spell of four wins in a row The Five Stripes are now without a win in the last four. The chance to take part in the playoffs in their first season is in danger. The team had two breaks in the resent weeks and should be fresh to face Dallas. Will they be lucky on their debut in the brand new Mercedes-Benz Stadium remains to be seen.

Dallas have lost their last three games on the road conceding seven goals in them. I don’t think the return of Diaz or the inconsistency of Urruti will help much here.

SEA ( W 11 D 9 L 7 ) vs LA ( W 7 D 5 L 14 )

The Sounders putting up a strong case for a title defence. They now stand at 11 games unbeaten streak. It’s very likely this to be extended with this match. Expect Dempsey and Lodeiro to be popular and Roldan if you are on a budget. Not long ago Frei had four consecutive shutouts and this looks like another one on the cards.

After a historical bad long spell the Galaxy managed a win but let’s not forget that was against Colorado. Alessandrini came back with a goal and assist, first in ages. The Dos Santos brothers should be back as well. It’s just too early to say if that win was the springboard for a new start or one off. Perhaps not just yet.

Captain Suggestions

  1. Giovinco (TOR) Back in a scoring mode. SJ have conceded most goals on the road.
  2. Lodeiro (SEA) At home against out of form Galaxy.
  3. Torres (HOU) At home against a team with no win on the road this year.
