Fantasy MLS Gameweek 3 Review and Gameweek 4 Preview

It was another exciting round with 36 goals in it. We witness the first wins for teams like Toronto, Kansas, LA, Columbus and Seattle whereas Minnesota earned their first point. There were quite few dramas with own goals, red and yellow cards but that is now water under the bridge.

Well done once again to our regulars Gallow, Wanton and GarthButchers as they got good scores and remained in top 10 in the Fantasy Football First League.

Gameweek 3 Review

On another freezing afternoon at the Yankee Stadium New York City had to settle just for a point against Montreal Impact. A minute before the end of the first half Wallace took the lead for the host. The Blue boys made some efforts but Bush managed three saves in the first half. In the second half the guests came on stronger and  Oduro scored his first goal of the season after five shots with the help from Barnier. Score: 1-1.

It wasn’t definitely the night for Chicago Fire as they were slaughtered by the home team Atlanta United FC. The disaster started in the 4th minute with an own goal by Vincent. If that wasn’t enough few minutes later Kappelhof received a red card. The host couldn’t take an immediate advantage but they made it up in the second half. In the 60th minute Martinez doubled the score with only few minutes later Villalba to extend it. The final one came from Martinez himself again. Score:4-0.

Not the most exciting first half between the Canadians with Vancouver Whitecaps trying hard to achieve something at home against Toronto FC. Then everything changed around when Vancouver midfielder Brek Shea was shown a yellow card for a foul on Toronto defender Nick Hagglund before saying something to referee Ismail Elfath to immediately earn a second booking and a sending off. Shortly after that the visitors took advantage and Vasquez scored followed by team mate Altidore four minutes later. Score:0-2.

The misery for D.C. United continued as they remained winless for a third time against  Columbus Crew. That was their second home game without a single goal. In the 38th minute the visitors earned a penalty scored by Higuain. In the second half they had another one this time executed by Ola Kamara. The home team looked completely useless. Score: 0-2.

Orlando City registered their second win at home against Philadelphia Union. The host put pressure from the very start. They continued to push and in the 39th minute opened the scoring. Shortly after the start of the second half Sapong had the equaliser. That didn’t distract Orlando and Larin scored again in the 73rd minute. Score: 2-0.

FC Dallas had a slow start and the guests New England Revolution earned an early penalty which Nguyen converted into a goal. From that point the host stormed back and went attacking at most of the time. In the 71st minute Urruti levelled the score and just six minutes later he completed his brace. Score:2-1.

Sporting Kansas City welcomed at home San Jose Earthquakes. The home team looked the better side from the start and they were awarded with a stunning goal from Feilhaber in the 37th minute. Some moments before the end of regular time Bingham made an error and scored in his own net. In stoppage time Jungwirth scored the consolation goal for the Quakes but that wasn’t enough for a win. Score:2-1.

Colorado Rapids only managed a point at home against Minnesota United. The first half the host played better and Badji scored in the 17th minute. Only five minutes into the second half the visitors earned a penalty which was executed by Molino. Eight minutes later Ramirez gave the lead to the new boys. It didn’t last long as Hairston equalised immediately after that. Despite being down to 10 men after Davies was sent off in the 70 minute the guest managed to earn their first point for the season. Score:2-2.

LA Galaxy got their first win of the year at Real Salt Lake. Movsisyan opened the scoring for the host but that was all. Within ten minutes Beckerman received two yellow cards and was sent off. The guest left it till late and in the 69th minute Romney levelled the score. Five minutes later Boateng got the second goal. Score:1-2.

Portland Timbers won their third game when welcomed Houston Dynamo. In the 11th minute Valeri scored from penalty. That was followed by four yellow cards for his team mates. Dynamo came back with a penalty scored by Torres and in stoppage time Quioto made it two for the guests. Everything changed in the second half as the Timbers regrouped. In the 58th minutes Valeri scored again to mark his sixth brace in MLS. Then that was followed by goals from Guzman and Adi. Score:4-2.

In the final game the reigning Champions Seattle Sounders hosted New York Red Bulls. That was their first win of the season. The home team dominated the game from the start. Dempsey opened the scoring in the 28th minute with a penalty kick. Bradley Wright Phillips equalised in the 57th minute with a header. The Sounders came back with two more goals from Morris and Shipp to grab the three points. Score:3-1.

Gameweek 4 Preview

Welcome to the reality. Yes, that is what we have been dealing in the last two seasons. Being MLS the league is still on while the rest of the world is having an international break. Very short BGWs or extra large DGWs. We are about to face the first one for this year, just six teams involved. In the past that was a horror scenario but now with the unlimited transfers every week you can do whatever you want. Still the importance of price fluctuation is there. It will all happen in one day.

N E Revolution ( W 0 D 0 L 2 ) vs Minnesota United FC ( W 0 D 1 L 2 )

Things are not going well for the Revs this season. Two lost games out of two. That is four games lost on the road since last year. Just one goal so far. They deserve the very bottom of the Eastern Conference. Jay Heaps needs to take some urgent measures and put some order in his team.

My Opinion: Many would think that this home game will be a walk in the park but I doubt they will do much. For the brave ones Nguyen can be trusted.

As the Loons earned their first point in three games they are starting to show glimpses of hope. They share the same destiny like the team they will play and are bottom in the West. The fact is that they don’t give a chance of a clean sheet to whoever they play.

My Opinion: The obvious choice here is Ramirez and Molino. I will pick one of them.

New York Red Bulls ( W2 D 0 L 1 ) vs Real Salt Lake( W 0 D 1 L 2 )

After two consecutive wins the Bulls slipped down to third in the Eastern conference when they lost to Seattle. They looked very disorganised and missed many chances. Still they remain a powerhouse and will forget that game quickly.

My Opinion: In a short gameweek I will get BWP and Kljestan. Felipe and Royer deserve some attention as well. At home against shaky RSL they look the winner.

Real share the bottom of the Western Conference with Minnesota and are one place above because of a goal difference. Like NE they have just one goal but they have played a game more at the same time.

My Opinion: I am not ready to trust any of these players. I can’t see them doing anything special in New York.

Columbus Crew SC ( W 1  D 1 L 1 ) vs Portland Timbers ( W 3 D 0 L 0 )

The Crew had it all so far a draw, a lost and a win. It looks like they are still trying to organise themselves and get into the rhythm. There are some notable players like Higuain, Finlay and Ola who like to score.

My Opinion: It will be a difficult game against a team who has not lost yet and have ten goals in the bag so far. Saying that, Finley looks promising.

What can we say? The Timbers are unbeaten so far. They have won their last six games. The choice for players is endless. You can start from  the remarkable Adi go to Guzman, Olum and Blanco and finish with the great Valeri who got his 6th brace in his career last week.

My Opinion: I will definitely keep Valeri, with four goals and two assists who wouldn’t? Adi with 3 goals and assist is coming in my team. Both are captain material.

Notes for your Diary
