Fantasy MLS Gameweek 4 Review and Gameweek 5 Preview

Game week 4 was a short and quick MLS round, producing unexpected scorelines. Wanton and Gallow just scraped into the top 10 and GarthButchers is up in top 5. Watch out Secret Zorro with a massive 91 points is knocking on the door. He went differential in that round and that is what brought him the success. Well done SZ, enjoy the fame!

Gameweek 4 Review

It wasn’t much of surprise when New England Revolution welcomed Minnesota United at home. Agudelo was in rush to open the scoring in the 4th minute. Just like ten minutes later Warner equalised for the visitors. The host responded shortly after that with goals from K. Kamara, Nguyen and the second one from Agudelo. The guests looked hopeless in the second half despite the goal from Kallman in the 49th minute which was overshadowed in four minutes by Tierney’s penalty. Score: 5-2.

New York Red Bulls had to settle for a point in a goalless draw at home against Real Salt Lake. From the very start was obvious the domination of the guests. They managed four shots on goal compare to none of their opponent. The second half was a different story when the Bulls became much more attacking and were trying everything possible for a goal. All the efforts were fruitless against the excellent goal keeping from Matt Van Oekel. Score: 0-0.

The short round finished with win for Columbus Crew over Portland Timbers. The visitors were very quick to get on the scoring board when Asprilla netted one in the 4th minute. Just seven minutes later Meram responded to that followed by a goal from Kamara. In the added extra time of the first half Adi made it levelled. The second half went rather monotonous until the 84th minute when Hansen made his MLS debut with a goal and earn the three points for the host. Score: 3-2.

Gameweek 5 Preview

Yes, we are back to normal, well almost. At least this time we have only two teams on Bye and they are Colorado Rapids and FC Dallas.

TOR ( W 1 D 2 L 0 ) vs SKC ( W 1 D 2 L 0 )

After two draws finally Toronto won their first game of the season. You can call it a steady start as we know they are good at home and away. With two clean sheets and a goal, Morrow is leading the defence. Moor and Zavaleta are not far behind. Bradley and Altidore had a good start of the season. This team had at least 2 goals in 8 of the last 9 games. They can’t be ignored.

My Opinion: Waiting news on Gio I think Altidore will be a good prospect in this game and Zavaleta at 5.0 looks good.

Kansas are in the same situation like their opponent. They are undefeated in the last 11 home games with 7 clean sheets in them. Benny is back in full force with a goal and three clean sheets. Melia had great start and Medranda, Besler and Opara made tons of points so far. Sadly there was not much from Dom Dwyer in his 100th appearance.

My Opinion: I think its time again to trust Feilhaber and get at least one of the defenders. Medranda at 5.1 is an excellent choice.

SEA ( W 1 D 1 L 1 ) vs ATL ( W 2 D 0 L 1 )

The Sounders had their first win last time around and it was good one scoring three goals. That wasn’t much of a surprise as they have won 9 of their last 10 home games.

My Opinion: Lodeiro keeps his form and with a goal and an assist looks good for this game. Dempsey with two goals cant be ignored. He must be on high after the hatrick against Honduras. Stay away from defence.

Despite the lost in the opening round Atlanta showed they mean business this season. Money well spend and the likes of Martinez, Almiron and Asad proved it. Pirez and Garza have been important assets at the back.

My Opinion: It’s time to take this team’s ambitions seriously. Martinez with five goals to his name needs not to be missed. It will be a big score game but he will be in.

NYC ( W 1 D 1 L 1 ) vs SJ ( W 2 D 0 L 1 )

The Blues went backwards again with a shabby draw against DCU at home after that brilliant win in previous week. After the two goals in round 2 Villa was the most picked captain but he didn’t produce. It was a surprise as they have won the last 8 home games and in 6 of them had over 2.5 goals in them.

My Opinion: It will be a tough game but I think City will take it as they are very good at home. Most likely I will consider David again and might go for his new combo partner Moralez who already has a goal and two assists.

Well, after two excellent wins to start the Quakes got beaten by SKC. Nevertheless Godoy with his two goals and assist and Wondo with a goal and two assists can be dangerous at any time.

My Opinion: The visitors will put some pressure on the host as prior the last game they were undefeated in the last three games. I expect at least a goal from Chris.

CHI ( W 1 D 1 L 1 ) vs MTL ( W 0 D 2 L 1 )

After a promising start the Fire slipped back into the old dismal style. They were destroyed by the new boys. And that was their seventh consecutive game lost on the road. Saying that there is a hope that they will bounce back with the new guys Nikolic and Juninho who looked promising.

My Opinion: I think Nikolic can get a goal at home against the shaky MTL.

The Falcons still can’t get that form they had last year. They keep blowing hot and cold. Could that be the After Drogba effect or bad organisation from Mauro Biello who has been their manager for the last eight years and should know better.

My Opinion: Bernier and Piatti plus Oduro could turn out to be the dark horses.

CLB ( W 2 D 1 L 1 ) vs OLC ( W 2 D 0 L 0 )

After a slow start the Crew achieved their second win last week. They are sitting comfortably at the top of the Western Conference. The new boy Niko Hansen looked impressive in his debut.

My Opinion: Ola Kamara is well back on track with three goals in the last three games. Meram with a goal and two assists and Higuain with a goal and assist can’t be ignored.

The Lions have two wins and a game in hand. They are looking good this season. We have to take in account that the first two games were at home. They are now second in the East and looking good to hold to that.

My Opinion: Larin is becoming once again the must have. Three goals in two games is pretty good. For me Rivas is a future potential.

DCU ( W 0 D 1 L 2 ) vs PHI ( W 0 D 2 L 1 )

Not really the start we expected from the Capital boys. Previously unbeaten in the last 10 home games which ended in New York two weeks ago. Not a win and not a single goal yet. There is something wrong going there and Ben Olsen have to think hard what is the problem after seven years being the boss.

My Opinion: I would be scared to chance any of these players for now.

Philly have failed to win in 10 games and conceded at least two goals in six of the last seven. There are good players in this team but it doesn’t look they can play together.
My Opinion: For those who like to take a risk Sapong is your man. A goal in each of the last two games. D. Jones and Pontius might do well at some point.

MIN ( W 0 D 1 L 3 ) vs RSL ( W 0 D 2 L 2 )

The Loons once again lost. They have conceded 18 goals so far. Was it because few of the key players were missing we don’t know.

My Opinion: For the very brave ones Ramirez and Molino could be sneaky punts.

The Claret and Cobalt boys are not doing well. They have not won a game yet and have just one goal so far. They lost their manager last week and the Interim Daryl Shore must make some improvements if he is to stay in that position.

My Opinion: I am not reedy to risk any players from this team just yet.

HOU ( W 2 D 0 L 1 ) vs NY ( W 2 D 1 L 1 )

Another team after two brilliant games lost away to the Timbers. That was the end of five consecutive undefeated games away. They still have their two home opening games behind with great wins. They are definitely a revolutionised team for this season and contenders for the playoffs later on.

My Opinion: Alex is getting involved in all of the game and with three assists he is not far from a goal. Oduro with his three goals in each game can’t be missed.

After a good start of the season the Bulls have lost the plot lately. After they lost to Seattle all they could manage was a goalless draw at home against struggling RSL.

My Opinion: I lost hope in BWP, he doesn’t look the same as last season. I will wait and see when Kljestan is back in this game if they will be any chemistry like in the past.

VAN ( W 0 D 1 L 2 ) vs LA ( W 1 D 0 L 2 )

The Caps still can’t get it right. They are trailing in 8th position in the West but it is all because of goal differences. If they carry on they will repeat the same result like last year.

My Opinion: Still not interested in any players until they improve.

The Galaxy finally won a game by one goal and that was only the second one after GDS in the first game. The Alessandrini two assists didn’t impress a lot.

My Opinion: I would still avoid players from that team. I am waiting for that boom.

POR ( W 3 D 0 L 1 ) vs NE ( W 1 D 0 L 2 )

The fairytale of three consecutive wins ended in Ohio defeated by the Crew. They are still top in the east thanks to the goals they scored earlier. Of course we can’t ignore Adi and his four goals and assist. Valeri, the most popular captain pick last week who did nothing is still a good option.

My Opinion: I will keep Valeri and give him one more chance. I might consider Guzman who looks good at 7.7

After a dismal start the Revs finally won. Well, it was at home against MINU but it counts. We still have Kamara, Agudelo and Nguyen around to choose from.

My Opinion: I will keep Lee for now and maybe Delamea. Not very convinced how they will do away to Portland but you never know.

Notes for your Diary

There are still quite few games in the middle of the week in the World Cup qualifiers. Make sure you check for MLS injures before this round starts.

Deadline: Friday the 31st of March at 7.30 PM EDT- Saturday the 1st of April 00:30 AM GMT

Best of luck to all Fantasy Football First managers!

    • @SecretZorro I told you half a dozen times I was on a switcheroo and had 7 coming off bench
Not too bad a week, not great either mind but I live to fight another day.
Maybe a sense of normality may descend on this thread now after the over the top self proclaiming of greatness yesterday??
Long way to go, bring it on!!!!!

  1. “I told you half a dozen times” No you bloody didn’t, you never “told us” not even one time. OK, we got it eventually, slow are we, but feel free to copy/paste the posts where you ‘told us’ 1 through 7 times! . I also tipped my hat to you, much as I hate that rule, it IS the rule and you played it to your advantage to reduce the deficit and I saluted for that. You are now third in the league and second in H2H, get over it.
You’ve known me long enough, as have all the fellas in Banter League, I don’t give a toss for the end result, I just want to have fun and I got into a series of great capitanos, I had a plan and it worked, 3 weeks in a row and you slag me off for being lucky. You pull off the old switcheroo one time and I congratulated straight away. That speaks volumes, don’t you think?

      • @IvanTheTerrible Did you read what I said? I don’t care, I play fantasy footie for fun. Some homework for you, find the ‘half a dozen times’, please post them here, see you later.
