Fantasy MLS Gameweek 5 Review and Gameweek 6 Preview

We had a very quiet first day in the round 5, with two games and not a single goal. Things subsequently got better, with braces and a hatrick. Amazing performance from Midnightrunner and SecretZorro now climbed to 6th and 5th in FFF League joined by GarthButchers and Gallow in Top 10. Well done guys!

Gameweek 5 Review

On a wet windy night Toronto failed to win at home against Kansas Sporting City. They had more chances but with no finish. Thing gone worse when in the 37th minute Irwin injured his knee. Giovinco almost had one in the second half but hit the crossbar. The visitors had 15 shots with 5 on target but it all finished goalless. Score:0-0.

In another highly intense game Seattle Sounders had to settle for a point against Atlanta United. Despite the goalless score the game was entertaining with both sides trying to get something . As expected Dempsey wasn’t in the starting lineup after the international break. He entered in the second half and almost scored. Score:0-0.

From the start New York City looked the better side against San Jose Earthquakes. Urena was quick to open the scoring in the 6th minute but just four minutes later Harrison equalised. In the 67th minute McNamara scored the winner, Score:2-1.

It was a dynamic game when Chicago Fire welcomed Montreal Impact. The new boy in town Bastian Schweinsteiger made his debut with a goal in the 17th minute. In the second half Mancosu produced the equaliser. The host was left with 10 men after a second yellow card for Juninho. In less than 10 minutes Cabrera was sent off as well.

The action went in the closing stage of the game when Ballou scored in the last minute of regular time. Solignac levelled the game in extra time. Score:2-2.

It was the first game on the road for Orlando City where they lost to Columbus Crew. Meram opened the scoring in the 13th minute and that was all for the first half. In the second half they looked much better but Meram came back for his second one. Score:2-0.

D.C. United had their first win for the season while playing Philadelphia Union at home. Ortiz scored in the 18th minute. Later the host was awarded a controversial penalty executed by Acosta. The consolation came from Sapong. Score:2-1.

Finally the new franchise Minnesota United won a game. They hosted Real Salt Lake. The guest were the first to score in the 4th minute with Mulholland. In the 16th minute Molino brought the equaliser. In the second half the home team looked unstoppable with a brace from Ramirez and a goal from Venegas. Movsisyan scored three minutes before regular time but that wasn’t enough for the three points. Score:4-2.

New York Red Bulls was totally lost when they visited Houston Dynamo. The only goal from them came from BWP and just a minute later Remick equalised. Four minutes before the end of the first half Torres made it two for the host with a PK. The visitors continued to make mistakes in the second half and Torres took advantage to complete his hatrick. The Bulls defence was awful throughout the game. Score: 4-1.

It was an exiting game with many goals when Vancouver Whitecaps welcomed home their rival LA Galaxy. Techera scored the first goal but that was overshadowed by Alessandrini who had a brace within four minutes. In the second half Montero levelled the score. Laba matched the visitors brace scoring in 67th and 87 minutes. Score:4-2.

It all ended with Portland Timbers sharing a point each with New England Revolution .
The host were quick to open the scoring with a goal from Valeri in the 12th minute. The game went with many attacks from both sides. The Timbers were almost sure to extend their lead at the top of the table until six minutes before the end when Nguyen found the net to earn a point for the visitors. Score:1-1.

Gameweek 6 Preview

You have been warned at the start. We have experienced many surprises from MLS in thepast but this is the biggest confusion of all. This round originally was suppose to have six teams on double and the next one six teams on Bye. Suddenly everything was changed on Monday evening to no DGW or BGW.
Get used of it.

LA ( W 1 D 0 L 3 ) vs MTL ( W 0 D 3 L 1 )

It’s not the Galaxy we remember from last year. They just have one win in four games. Maybe this will be their game against a team without a win this season
My Opinion: Perhaps its time to give a chance to Alessandrini with 2 goals and 2 assists. I am not sure GDS and Boateng can be risked.
The Falcons are not doing well this season. The do score goals but haven’t won a game yet. I doubt this will be the first one away to LA.
My Opinion: For now I will avoid getting any player from this team.

CHI( W 1 D 2 L 1 ) vs CLB ( W 3 D 1 L 1 )

After the big loss in Atlanta the Fire is back with a draw. They are undefeated in 14 of the last 15 home games scoring at least two goals in 9 of them. I liked the way they played against MTL and I still think with the new players they will do well this year.
My Opinion: Is it time to trust Bastian? Why not he looked hungry for goals.

Three wins in a row is remarkable for the Crew. They are top in the Eastern Conference scoring 9 goals so far.
My Opinion: Ola failed to score in the last game but he still looks a good one to have. Meram with 3 goals and 2 assists could be a good choice.

NE ( W 1 D 1 L 2 ) vs HOU ( W 3 D 0 L 1 )

The Revs are eighth in the Eastern Conference with only one win out of four. They had to open the season with five games against teams from the West. This will be the fifth one against the newly improved Houston.
My Opinion: We can’t ignore the fact that Nguyen has scored in each of the last three games. Agudelo has two goals but that was against Minnesota.
The Dynamos are second in the Western Conference. They have scored at least two goals in the last four games. They coming back with a massive win against NYRB.
My Opinion: We can’t ignore Eric Torres who scored in every game including a hatrick in the last one. Remick looks a good pick for his price.

DCU ( W 1 D 1 L 2 ) vs NYCFC ( W 2 D 1 L 1 )

After a miserable start of the season United managed a win. After finishing fourth last year the team now occupies 8th position in the East.
My Opinion: I am not ready for any players. I find all of them too inconsistent.
The Blues are going steady with only one lost game. They are undefeated in 12 of the last 13 home games. I think there is a chance for them in this match.
My Opinion: I will give Villa one more chance. Harrison had his first goal for the season. Moralez still looking promising.

PHI ( W 0 D 2 L 2 ) vs POR ( W 3 D 1 L 1 )

Philadelphia have no win in the last 12 games. They deservedly sitting at the bottom of the Eastern Conference.
My Opinion: Sapong is the only player of interest with a goal in each of the last three games. Still waiting to see something special from Medunjanin.
The Timbers retain the top spot in the Western league with a point lead over Houston who have a game in hand. They look very organised team this season and have a good chance in this game to extend their lead.
My Opinion: Valeri became must have with 5 goals and 2 assists so far. Adi is another one with 4 goals and assist. The much cheaper new boys Guzman and Olum are yet to improve with a goal each. The team is on a mission and is good to have at least one.

TOR ( W 1 D 3 L 0 ) vs ATL ( W 2 D 1 L 1 )

The Reds couldn’t do much at home. Saying that they are still undefeated in 18 of the last 20 home games. Giovinco is yet to score. Maybe this is the game they could do something special.
My Opinion: Keep the defenders you have. Not sure if it’s time for Gio yet.
The new kids on the block did well again and held Seattle away. Their top player Martinez is out for up to six weeks with injury.
My Opinion: The Canadians are good at home and I can’t see ATL scoring here.

DAL ( W 2 D 1 L 0 ) vs MIN ( W 1 D 1 L 3 )

The Texas boys haven’t lost a game so far. They were away for the CCL where Acosta and Urruti both scored. They still have their stars and will be missing again in the next round.
My Opinion: I will be tempted to get Urruti and Acosta for this home game even if there is danger some players to be rotated.
Who said that the Loons can’t win a game. Yes they did and with a good score. They are out of the bottom and leapfrogged LA and RSL. Earlier in the week Minnesota traded Saeid and Gatt for Cronin and Burch from Colorado to enforce the defence.
My Opinion: There is an obvious chemistry between C. Ramirez- 4 goals plus assist and Molino with 3 goals and 2 assists.

RSL ( W 0 D 2 L 3 ) vs VAN ( W 1 D 1 L 2 )

Real failed to win the last 13 games. With just three goals in five games they are at the bottom in the West Conference.
My Opinion: The only playmaker in this team is Rusnak and to some extent Yura but I am not ready for the risk.
The Caps earned their first win for this season after a dismal start. Still trashing LA with four goals was spectacular for them.
My Opinion: Laba looked good with a brace. There is a future for Montero.

SJ ( W 2 D 0 L 2 ) vs SEA ( W 1 D 2 L 1 )

The Quakes have lost the last five games on the road. They might do well in this one
My Opinion: Godoy and lima are expected to be popular picks in this round
The Sounders are undefeated in 10 of the last 11 home games. Saying that they only have one win and a bit shaky on the road.
My Opinion: I am sure quite few will still have Lodeiro. Dempsey played short time but he had 4 goals in the WC qualifications and he is in good form.

OLC ( W 2 D 0 L 1 ) vs NYRB ( W 2 D 1 L 2 )

In their first game on the road the lions lost to the Crew. They are good at home but let’s not forget last year when they managed only three wins away.
My Opinion: The only player I might get is Larin. He didn’t score last week but he will be back in this one. I am staying away from the defence.
It was a good start of the season for the Bulls but now that looks a distant history. They have conceded seven goals in the last two games if you exclude the goalless draw at home with RSL. I think Dax McCarty is well missed in this team.
My Opinion: There was glimpse of hope with BWP and Kljestan combo which reminded us of the old good times.

SKC ( W 1 D 3 L 0 ) vs COL ( W 1 D 1 L 1 )

Kansas haven’t lost a game so far but at the same time failed to win in 17 of the last 18 away games. There are above their opponents in this game and might get lucky. We have to see for how long Benny will be out.
My Opinion: Any of the defenders worth attention. They racking up BP in every game.
The Rapids is another team which we haven’t seen for two weeks. They don’t look as good as last year but I am sure they are about to come back soon.
My Opinion: Badji and Gashi can do well. Let’s not forget about some of the best defenders around like Watts and let’s hope Sjoberg and Miller recover soon.
Get used of it!

Notes for your Diary

Dallas and Vancouver are still involved in the CCL and will play on Wednesday and Thursday in the semi-finals before this round. Many rotations are expected.

  1. 73pts & finished. Currently 12th Overall. I need SKC to concede ‘cos loads of top players have apparently gone with three or four in their defence :doorpeek: and a blank for Larin & BWP wouldn’t go amiss or I’m going to plummet.

  2. The early :bandwagon: in MLS. Tores seems to be the right choice and possibly a captain choice. The surprises are coming from Kan and Almron, a CS against MRL? Why not

      • @SecretZorro Well what I meant is: most of the home teams this week are not good in scoring, but good in defence whereas away teams are the one attacking… e.g. SKC – POR (best def vs best attack)…. VAN – SEA, CLB – TOR, ORL – LA – none of these look easy and can end in 1-1 kind of scoreline.

        • @GoalMachine Ah, I see. But it’s all homies (almost) this season.
