Fantasy MLS GW 13 Review and GW 14 Preview

It was a small DGW but still exciting. It all started with a huge disappointment from the only team on double FC Dallas. They decided to come out with team B and ended the round in the same fashion with no goals. Still 26 goals including 3 braces, 8 home wins and 9 clean sheets wasn’t that bad.

Gameweek 13 Review

Chicago Fire opened the round at home against FC Dallas. Everything was done in the first nine minutes. Nikolic open the scoring and in three minutes Lamah equalised. In another three minutes Accam scored the winning goal. The host had a chance to extend their lead but Nikolic missed a PK in the last seconds of the game 2-1.

Toronto FC simply hammered Columbus Crew. Vazquez opened the scoring earlier and Morrow added a second goal in the first half. Vazquez came back in the second half to complete his brace. Osorio and Hamilton found the net in the closing stages after the host was left with 10 men because of Delgado’s red card 5-0. Seattle Sounders took the three points against an old derby rival Portland Timbers. The only and winning goal came from Roldan in the 4th minute 1-0. Vancouver Whitecaps lost at home to D.C. United after a controversial penalty executed by Neagle 0-1.

New York Red Bulls earned much needed victory at home against New England Revolution. The early goal from Nguyen wasn’t enough for the Revs as the Bulls came back strong in the second half with goals from BWP and Royer 2-1. The top team in the Western Conference Sporting Kansas City lost away to the bottom Colorado Rapids. The only goal was scored by Ford 1-0.

Minnesota United shutout Orlando City at home. The only goal was scored by Ramirez in the second half 1-0. Real Salt Lake shutout Philadelphia Union at home with a single goal from Plata 1-0. In the first California Clasico LA Galaxy visited and rolled over San Jose Earthquakes. Wondolowski opened the scoring but Pedro and Dos Santos came back for the visitors. Later on Hoesen equalised and a minute before the end of the first half Bernardez found his own net. In the second half Dos Santos completed his brace 2-4.

Atlanta United just buried New York City  FC at home. The damage was done in the first half when Almiron opened the scoring. Three minutes later Villalba added a second but shortly Almiron came back for his brace assisted again by Gressel. The consolation goal came from Harrison in the second half but it didn’t matter

3-1. FC Dallas couldn’t do a lot at home as well and managed to keep away Houston Dynamo somehow. Lots of attempts from both sides but all ended with a goalless score 0-0.

Gameweek 14 Preview

The short week is over but we are jumping into another big double game week. Eight teams will play twice and they are: Columbus, D.C.U, New England, Houston, Orlando, RSL, Seattle and NYCFC. Not much time for decisions as once again the deadline is on Wednesday.

CLB ( W 6 D 1 L 7 ) vs SEA/H/ and COL/A/ ( W 3 D 1 L 8 )

The Crew have lost five of their last seven games. They have conceded 15 goals on the road. They could bounce back against SEA who are not the best on the road either and get a win vs COL with their dismal season performance. Meram was tactically substituted in the 40th minute the but we hope he will play in both games.

After losing 7 of the previous 8 matches The Rapids came back with a win. Ford scored his first MLS goal. Not bad for the bench at that price. We need to wait.

NYCFC ( W 6 D 2 L 6 ) vs NE/H/ and PHI/H/ ( W 4 D 4 L 5 )

The Blues will have two home games. Both are against teams which don’t do well away from home. The team has been as good at home as away. They got smashed by ATL last week but I have the strong feelings that it’s their time in these two. I know Villa will be in the most of the teams and potentially a captain choice.

Philly ended their six games unbeaten streak last week at RSL. They have only one win on the road so far and that was against D.C.U. With many other options I doubt there will be many players selected for this round.

OLC ( W 6 D 2 L 5 ) vs DCU/H/ and CHI/H/ ( W 7 D 3 L 3 )

The Lions have failed to win their last 9 away games but doing relevantly well at home with only one loss so far. Larin played 180 minutes in each of the last DGWs and could be good for these two.

Chicago is really on fire. After 13 games they have equalised the total points of the entire 2016 season. The team now is on a four games winning streak. We know by now that they are great at home but still have only one win away scoring 6 and conceding 12. Nevertheless, Nikolic is now a Golden Boot contender with 11 goals. Accam made a club record by scoring in five consecutive games. Niko to stay for the time being.

HOU ( W 6 D 2 L 5 ) vs RSL/H/ and SEA/A/

Dynamo is just sinking. One single goal in the last 5 away games and no win. Their record at home is a bit better. Is it time to trust Torres or Alex in this one?

DCU ( W 4 D 2 L 6 ) vs OLC/A/ and LA/H/ ( W 5 D 2 L 5 )

The Black and Reds won last week with one goal but we can’t hide their previous record of three home games without scoring a single goal. The team shares the bottom of Eastern Conference with MTL. I don’t see a great choice in this one.

The Galaxy are unbeaten in the last five games but with only one clean sheet which was at home against Philly. Dos Santos with 5 goals in the last four games and Alessandrini with 6 and as many assists in total will be good if you want a SGW player.

RSL ( W 4 D 2 L 8 ) vs HOU/H/ and DAL/A/ ( W 5 D 5 L 2 )

The Clarets and Cobalt boys keep blowing hot and cold. When they win it’s by a goal when they lose it’s with a big margin. Maybe there is a minimal chance against HOU who has not won a game on the road yet and conceded 14 goals but I can’t see them doing a lot against DAL who are not conceding many at home. Plata scored his first goal but was it one off or… ? Rusnak is your safest option if you have a space.

The Texans didn’t meet the expectations last week. Failed in the first game and hardly managed to withhold HOU at home. I gave up on players from this team. Urruti, Acosta and Hedges are all there if you want to gamble, I am not.

NE ( W 4 D 4 L 5 ) vs NYCFC/A/ and TOR/H/ ( W 8 D 5 L 1 )

The Revs are winless in the last 9 away games. Its hard to see any success in both games with NYCFC not bad at home and TOR with 1 loss away from home. That said, Nguyen with 6 goals and 5 assists can’t be ignored. Fagundez seems to be doing well at late. He started the season at 7m and now cost 7.7m.

The Reds extended their unbeaten streak to eight with 7 wins and 1 draw. They are not that convincing on the road as they are at home. Altidore will be back from suspension and Gio insist that he is ready to play. With so many DGW players maybe not just yet.

SEA ( W 4 D 4 L 5 ) vs CLB/A/ and HOU/H/

The Sounders have lost only one game at home in the last 17. They have the highest percentage on shots per game,14.8. The first game will be more difficult but I can see a victory against HOU who are with no win on the road this season. It will be a hard decision that we have to make about Lodeiro who was popular in the last GW. Just one assist in the last 5 games?

POR ( W 5 D 3 L 5 ) vs SJ ( W 5 D 4 L 5 )

The Timbers are surely out of form with only one win in the last 7 games. I wouldn’t trust Valeri with one goal in the last six appearances. The same goes for Adi.

The Quakes are just another team on the roller coaster and you wonder what to expect from them. If you don’t have plans for a striker on a double then go for Wondolowski who adopted the habit to score in every other round. Godoy out with a hip injury.

SKC ( W 6 D 4 L 4 ) vs MIN ( W 4 D 2 L 7 )

Sporting is not good away but can do well at home. With Dwyer out injured it has to be Benny but with just an assist in the last 5 games I doubt there will be a rush for him.

Minny are still without a win on the road. Molino should be back for this one after last week off with sickness. Calvo and Venegas are expected to be away on international duties.

VAN ( W 5 D 1 L 6 ) vs ATL ( W 5 D 3 L 4 )

The Caps have been inconsistent at home and away. With a DGW no players for me.

Atlanta still remains unpredictable team. Two home wins, that is great but will they manage away to VAN is a big question mark? OK, lets face it, Almiron with 5 goals in the last 2 games, Gressel with 2 goals and 2 assists, Villalba always around the corner and Martinez expected to be back soon, I think they will. Some of the mentioned above could do better than the DGW players.

MTL ( W 3 D 4 L 4 ) vs NYRB ( W 6 D 2 L 6 )

The Canadians had a rest in the last round. They will be back after the big home win against Portland. After the last brace Piatti is now with 6 goals. The most famous bencher Tabla started to get more game time and even has two goals to his name.

After a four games winless streak the Bulls showed a glimpse of hope. BWP scored in the last two games and Kljestan is slowly getting back to his assisting duties. The trouble is they have only one road win and have shipped 14 goals away from home.

Notes for your Diary

* Watch out for updates on players called up on international duties for the 2018 World Cup qualifications. Some will be leaving before this round.

* The games in the second leg of the Canadian Championship will be played on the 30th and 31st of May. MTL, VAN and TOR are still involved. Watch out for rotations.

Captain Suggestions

1. David Villa (NYCFC)
Two home games. 8 goals and 4 assists.

2. Larin (OLC)
Two home games. 7 goals and an assist.

3. Meram (CLB)
At home to SEA and away to COL. 7 goals and 4 assists.

4. Torres (HOU)
At home to RSL and away to SEA. 9 goals and an assist.

Deadline: Wednesday 31/05/17 at 7:30 PM EDT – 00:30 AM BST

  1. OK, just received confirmation from Wanton that we are going ahead. This will be one of rules free week. Just treat it as a second normal team with no restrictions.
Emails have been sent to all.

  2. Hi guys. Here’s my first draft team. Any improvement suggestions welcome. $0.9M itb

    • @Chipster I think you’ll find that most of us will get Almiron in there somewhere. Rest is ok, we’ll all have similar anyway. This could be a good week for a cpts diff – maybe

      • @SecretZorro Thanks mate.

Ha, funny you say that as I did have Almiron originally, but swapped him out for Barrios.

        • @SecretZorro It’s a good idea

Otherwise gonna be hard to stand out from the crowd this week, with such slim pickings.
