Fantasy MLS GW 15 Review and GW 16 Preview

While the rest of the world was busy with World Cup qualifications and friendly games MLS as always managed to keep us busy with a tiny gameweek. It was a short and sweet round. It almost went as planned apart from the much expected SKC clean sheet which didn’t happen. Many managers did more than well with average points estimated at 31. The Dream team was heavily dominated by Portland and Chicago players with six and four from them respectively.

Gameweek 15 Review

Chicago Fire extended their unbeaten streak at home when welcomed Atlanta United. With equal amount of attempts from both sides Solignac scored the first goal in the 29th minute assisted by Accam. In the second half Atlanta brought two of their key players in the game but that didn’t help as Nikolic scored from a penalty kick 2-0.

Sporting Kansas City had settle for a point at home against Montreal Impact. The host dominated the first half and Gerso scored in the 24th minute assisted by Sanchez. In the second half the offence continued with attempts from Feilhaber and Dwyer but they were denied by Bush. In the 82nd minute Mancosu scored the equaliser 1-1.

Portland Timbers moved closer to the top in the West after the clean win over FC Dallas. Fanendo Adi added a brace to his goal tally in the first and second halves. The goals were scored in 32nd and 72nd minutes with the help from Blanco and Asprilla 2-0.

Gameweek 16 Preview

After the shortest gameweek so far we are getting into a normal one with no doubles or bye. It wont last long as we will be facing another big DGW next week.

NYCFC ( W 7 D 3 L 5 ) vs SEA ( W 5 D 4 L 6 )

The Citizens are equally good and bad at home and away. It’s hard to predict how they are going to do in any game. The team doesn’t get a clean sheet very often but somehow the defenders bring points. Chanot and Callens scored their first league goals, one wonder is that going to happen again soon. If you have the cash to splash go for Morales but I would rather go for Harrison who I find more productive and 1.8 cheaper. Without saying Villa will be in many teams, expect at least a goal here.

The Sounders have only one win on the road. Lodeiro has just an assist in the last seven games, the same goes for Alonso. Dempsey and Morris should be back but I don’t see much appetite for this game. Interesting fact is that this team get clean sheets only at home but Jones can’t be ignored with 5 assist, most for a defender so far.

ATL ( W 5 D 3 L 6 ) vs CLB ( W 7 D 1 L 8 )

The Five Stripes continued to struggle on the road with a second loss. They will be looking to bounce back in this one. The team has 28 goals from only 118 shots. They need to improve on corner shots as after 54 of them no goal has been created. The return from injury, star player Martinez will be an addition to already popular Almiron, Villalba and Gressel.

The Crew has lost 7 of the last 9 away games conceding at least two goals. Still, this game will see few goals from both sides and Meram and Higuain can’t be ignored.

NE ( W 5 D 5 L 5 ) vs CHI ( W 8 D 4 L 3 )

The Revs can’t be proud with their travelling record with no win so far but they are doing well at the Gillette stadium, unbeaten in the last 11 games. While at home they score big and Agudelo was impressive last time with his sixth goal. Nguyen already has 6 goals and 7 assists and I can see him being involved in this one. It’s not like Cropper gets a clean sheet every game but at that price he can be trusted at least for the bench.

Chicago Fire turned Toyota Park into a fortress after registering seven unbeaten games. On the road is a different story, just one win with just six goals scored compared to the 19 at home. The leading goal scorer Nikolic is on fire and the return from international duties Dax could help. There will be few goals from both teams.

OLC ( W 7 D 3 L 5 ) vs MTL ( W 4 D 5 L 4 )

The Lions can be trusted at home, six wins in contrast of one away. I think Larin will shine in this one. Spector and Sutter could do well with the bonus points.

The Falcons still remain utterly unpredictable. With only one win away from home I don’t see them doing much in this game. There a better options than Piatti in this round who is very unpredictable this season. A solid win for the host is on the cards.

TOR ( W 8 D 5 L 2 ) vs DCU ( W 4 D 3 L 7 )

Last time around we found out that the Canadians are not unbeatable when their long victorious streak was cut short by NE. Nevertheless they should be back on their feet considering the visiting opponent and the return of Altidore and Bradley. I am not sure how popular will be Giovinco this round, he doesn’t look like the player he was last season, especially at that price. Vazquez is 3.3 cheaper and with 23 more points.

I don’t know what is going on this year with the Black and Reds. Four consecutive home games and not a single goal in them. Not that they are better on the road. I can’t see this team doing anything in this match, no players for me.

SJ ( W 5 D 4 L 6 ) vs SKC ( W 7 D 5 L 4 )

The Quakes are slightly better at home but still remain unpredictable. As I mentioned before Wondolowski has adopted a new trend to score in every other game and always at home. Jungwirth has been quiet lately but might do well in this one.

Sporting is another team which is great at home but has problems on the road. With only one victory and just three goals scored it is enigma how will they do here. Benny is not himself this year and is risky to have him. At the same time Gerso is getting better and perhaps Dwyer might come back soon in a scoring mode. We must not forget the “Medranda” phenomenon. He always gets substituted before the team concede a goal and keeps the clean sheet points.

RSL ( W 4 D 2 L 10 ) vs MIN ( W 4 D 2 L 8 )

This will be a game that you need a crystal ball to predict what is going to happen. I don’t see any outstanding player from Real who can be trusted even at home. There are much better options for this round.

Minny is winless in the last seven away games conceding at least two goals in everyone of them. The likes of Ramirez and Molino can still do the damage if you want to gamble and don’t have better ideas for players from elsewhere.

VAN ( W 6 D 1 L 6 ) vs DAL ( W 6 D 5 L 3 )

The Caps are showing a glimpse of hope at late even if they still rotate wins with losses. Their defence is not the greatest like it used to be in the past but that brace out of nowhere from Waston makes you think again. Montero could be an option here.

The Texans have only one win in the last six games and that was against RSL. They will be visiting a team with almost the same home and away record. Diaz played only 26 minutes and whether he will start on another artificial turf we can only guess. The return of Hedges, Figueroa and Akindele might help but that remains to be seen.

LA ( W 5 D 3 L 5 ) vs HOU ( W 7 D 2 L 6 )

The Galaxy is unbeaten in the last six games with three wins and the same amount of draws. The team seems to perform better on the road than at home, already matched the away wins with the total of the entire last season. I expect heavy presence of Dos Santos and Alessandrini in this match considering the bad record their opponent has.

Apart from the 5-1 demolition of RSL, the Dynamo is not doing that well at late. The statistic shows: at home won 7 and lost 0, away won 0 and lost 6. So, defenders don’t look so attractive but Torres with 10 goals so far can score against anyone.

PHI ( W 4 D 4 L 6 ) vs NYRB ( W 6 D 2 L 7 )

After a four games winning streak Philly lost for a second time. Three of the last four wins finished with a clean sheet. This will be a second meeting between the two teams and back in round 10 the Union won 3-0, thanks to a hatrick from Sapong.

The Bulls have only one win in the last six games. The only win on the road was in the first round against Atlanta when Walkes had an own goal. We are still waiting to see more from BWP with 6 goals who won the Golden Boot last year with 24. The same goes for Kljestan with 6 assists compare to the 19 in the last season.

COL ( W 4 D 1 L 8 ) vs POR ( W 7 D 3 L 5 )

The Rapids are slowly coming back but there is still a big issue with their attack. They have lost all six games on the road so far this season. In last ten games, they have scored 9 goals which is two less than Nikolic’s total.

After five winless games streak the Timbers are back with a second win in a row. It has to be mentioned that the last two games finished with clean sheets, but that was at home. Colorado has also two consecutive home wins but the offence is not working well. Seven of Valeri’s eight goals have come at home. I would trust Adi in this one.

Captain Suggestions

1. Larin (OLC). At home against struggling Montreal.
2. Nguyen (NE). Home game against the not so great on the road Chicago.
3. Sapong (PHI). Could repeat the hatrick from the last meeting against NYRB.
4. Nikolic (CHI). He is on fire and would like to keep the lead for most scored goals.
5. David Villa ( NYCFC) for just being Villa. Big chance against SEA.
Outside Punt: Giovinco (TOR) The long waited return of the Atomic Ant.

Notes for your Diary

There was no fantasy football game I wasn't involved with . This time I am sticking with FPL with two teams plus My Rules. And of course my beloved MLS.
