Fantasy MLS GW 7 Review and GW 8 Preview

Yee haa, another exciting round of MLS is behind us. All teams played in game week 7 with no double game weeks nor blank game weeks making player selections a little harder. We had surprising scores and 29 goals, resulting in some high fantasy returns. Secret Zorro remained in Top 10 of the FFF League.

Gameweek 7 Review

Philadelphia Union suffered their latest defeat at home against New York City FC. They made few attempts in the first half but it ended goalless. In the 52nd minute Harrison opened the scoring with the help from Matarita. The host continued with the defensive mistakes. They gave a chance to David Villa to score from 50 yards which could be goal of the season. Score: 0-2.

Vancouver Whitecaps were the truly dominant side when they welcomed Seattle Sounders. Freddy Montero who played three years for the visitors punished his ex-club with a brace in the 65th and 80th minutes. The Sounders looked hopeless throughout the game with some poor attempts in the second half and a consolation goal from Bruin a minute before full time. Score: 2-0.

San Jose Earthquakes managed to earn a point at home against FC Dallas. The first half went uneventful with some fruitless attempts from both sides. In the 78th minute Acosta put the visitors on the board. When everything looked like to be done Hyka scored his first MLS goal to level the game. Score: 1-1.

Montreal Impact hosted the new franchise Atlanta United. The first half went almost uneventful until the 40th minutes when Jones scored his first MLS goal for the guest. Five minutes later Gonzalez received a red card and Piatti executed the penalty. It looked like the score will be even but in the last seconds Hamel scored. Score: 2-1.

The fans of Orlando City were happy with another home win against LA Galaxy.Johnson was quick to open the scoring in the 9th minute. It took a long time for the visitors to answer and Alessandrini equalized in the 83 minute. The Lions wouldn’t have that and Larin scored the winning goal in injury time. Score: 2-1.

Chicago Fire kept the unbeaten home record winning over New England Revolution. The visitors lost Watson in the first half after two yellow cards and Bastian Schweinsteiger scored his second goal. Two minutes into the second half Nikolics scored and did it again in the 73rd minute. Score: 3-0.

Two goals and a clean sheet is what New York Red Bulls needed when they hosted their old rival D.C. United. The first half was goalless but a minute after the second started, Muyl scored. Wright-Phillips added to the score in the 62nd minute. Score: 2-0.

Columbus Crew did everything in the first half against Toronto FC. The guests went on the scoring board in the 21st minute with a goal by Altidore. The host then regrouped and answered with two goals from Kamara and Meram. Score: 2-1.

Houston Dynamo shared a point each with Minnesota United. The home team dominated in the first half and took the lead with two goals from Manotas and Elis. In the second half the guest answered with goals from Ramirez and Venegas. Score: 2-2.

Colorado Rapids lost at home against Real Salt Lake. The only goal in the first half was scored by Doyle. Five minutes before the end of the game, Watts received a red card and the penalty was scored by Movsisyan. Lennon scored the winner. Score: 1-2.

Portland Timbers suffered their first home loss this year against Sporting Kansas City. The only goal in game was scored by Dwyer, his second of the season. Score: 0-1.

Gameweek 8 Preview

We are back in the doubles again. Therefore the round will start three days after the previous. Very short time for decisions making. In this round New England Revolution and San Jose Earthquakes will be playing twice. The first one with two home games and the other with two games on the road.

NE (W 2 D 1 L 3) vs SJ (W 2 D 2 L 2)

The Revs roller coaster is in full force. They keep winning and losing. So far two home wins is looking promising but on road they have failed to win in 13 of the last 14 games. The teams will play twice at home in this round.

I expect to see Nguyen and Agudelo in many teams. Cropper as well.

It was a second draw for the Quakes at home which make them undefeated in last five home games. With only one win in six games it’s hard to trust any players.

Perhaps Wondolowski if you are a risk taker.

TOR ( W 1 D 4 L 1 ) vs CHI ( W 3 D 2 L 1 )

Last year MLS Cup finalists can be found at ninth position in the Eastern Conference. After 5 draws in the last 6 games and one win they lost to Columbus Crew.

With just one goal I found Gio overpriced. Altidore worth attention.

In full contrast of last year standing Chicago occupies third place in the East. They have lost only once and scored eight goals. The team is undefeated in 17 home games.

Nikolics with 4 goals and Bastian with his second are great options.

PHI ( W 0 D 2 L 4 ) vs MTL ( W 1 D 3 L 2 )

Philly continued to sink and now have failed to win the last 14 games. They have conceded at least two goals in 9 of the last 10 matches. They are bottom of the league.

I am not tempted by any players from this team.

Montreal finally won a game after they failed to do that in the last six. The team looked different with the return of Piatti. There is a chance in this meeting.

Piatti is back and I will get him against winless Philadelphia.

HOU ( W 3 D 1 L 2 ) vs San Jose

Dynamos on and off scenario continuing. Saying that they have won the previous three games and drew the last one scoring at least two goals in them.

Torres and Alex will remain in my team for now.

San Jose is covered above.

POR ( W 4 D 1 L 2 ) vs VAN ( W 2 D 1 L 3 )

Despite the surprising loss at home to Kansas the timbers are still topping the Western Conference. They will be back on their feet against shaky Vancouver.

Valeri blanked in the last two games and I have to decide will he stay in my team. I might chance Adi for this game.

The Caps are blowing hot and cold. They haven’t won a game on road yet. Its hard to imagine they will do this away to strong Portland. They have conceded 2 goals in the last five games.

Montero is the only player who carries this team on his shoulders.

NE vs D.C.U ( W 2 D 1 L 3 )

New England is covered above.

With just two wins in six games, DC are not doing well this season. They are not good on the road but against NE we might see some goals.

I find it difficult to pick any player from this team.

NYRB ( W 3 D 1 L 3 ) vs CLB ( W 4 D 1 L 2 )

After four bad rounds the Bulls are back in a winning mode. They are now undefeated in the last 17 home games. Will they do it again against the top Columbus, we’ll see.

It’s time for BWP, Kljestan or Long for this game. The old winning formation 4-2-3-1 already started to show results.

Apart from the loss to Chicago the Crew is back with a win. The manager Gregg Belhalter has tried three different formations in the last six games and it seems to do the trick. This game will see quite few goals from both sides.

Ola and Meram are good for this one. Higuain is back from injury.

DAL ( W 3 D 2 L 0 ) vs SKC ( W 3 D 3 L 0 )

The Texans are now undefeated in 11 of the last 12 games. They don’t score many goals but are holding at the top of the Western Conference.

For this game I can see from now Urutti in many teams. You can add Acosta who looks in a good form. For the ones with lots of cash Hedges.

The Kansas boys have not lost a game this season. They will play a team which is yet to lose a game as well. Few goals are expected in here. Dwyer scored for a second week in a row and he might try to better the 16 goals from last year. Medranda, Sinovic and Besler racking up the bonus points regardless of the results.

RSL ( W 2 D 2 L 3 ) vs ATL ( W 2 D 2 L 2 )

After a shaky start Real earned a second consecutive win. They look like contestants for the playoffs this year. Yura scored which was his fourth goal in last three games. Lennon scored his first goal and at that price, he is a good bench fodder.

It was a good start for the new franchise but they are slowing down. Still the team has to be proud after been left with ten men for the entire second half. The result could have been worse but they defended well. Almiron and Villalba still remain popular.

NYCFC ( W 3 D 1 L 2 ) vs OLC ( W 4 D 0 L 1 )

The Blues have lost just one game so far. They failed to win in 6 of the previous 7 away games but last week they did it in style. Overall it’s a good season for them.

It’s difficult not to have David Villa with four goals and three assists. Harrison is reasonably priced player for your midfield.

The Lions now are with four wins and just one loss. They are second in the East with one point behind the leader. It doesn’t look like they are missing Kaka. Larin is becoming a must have and Johnson scored his first goal.

LA ( W 2 D 0 L 4 ) vs SEA ( W 1 D 3 L 2 )

The Galaxy is not doing well this season. Losing and winning became a tradition for them. Before the last game they scored at least two goals in the previous three. The only solid choice from this team is Alessandrini with 4 goals and 2 assists.

The last year Champions are having a bad season so far. They have won only one game and lost 9 of the last 10 on the road. I can’t see them doing well in this one.

My Opinion: Dempsey has been disappointing. Lodeiro if you have the cash to splash.

MIN ( W 1 D 2 L 4 ) vs COL ( W 1 D 1 L 3 )

The Loons have conceded at least two goals in the last seven games. Still the likes of Molino and Ramirez keep scoring and bringing points. Venegas is cheaper option.

It’s amazing what is happening with the Rapids this season. Finished second in the overall ranking last year and now they just can’t move from the bottom in the West. The famous defense from the past is not here anymore. Kevin Doyle shows some signs of hope. The budget striker Badji could be back with a goal or two in this game. Note that MLS disciplinary committee decided to suspend Howard for 3 games.

Deadline: Wednesday 19.04.17 at 7:30 PM EDT – 00:30 GMT

Best of luck to all Managers!!!
