Fantasy MLS GW 8 Review and GW 9 Preview

Columbus comfortably won 2-1 while the Whitecaps beat the Sounders in a thrilling 2-1 where Seattle were the dominant team. How did this impact your F-MLS team? It seems most of us predicted these results, and many managers crossed the 100 points milestone. Was the Double Game Week kind to you?

Gameweek 8 Review

Despite the high hopes for New England Revolution they only manage to collect a point at home in a scoreless draws against San Jose Earthquakes. The host was clearly the dominant side from the very start. They had 15 shots with 6 of them on target and 11 corners but the Quakes showed strong defense to earn a point. Score: 0-0.

The second game of the round was more exciting when Toronto FC welcomed the newly changed Chicago Fire. The guests had few chances but the Canadians were the dominant side. Giovinco found the net in the 28th minute and four minutes later Zavaleta doubled the score. In the 82nd minute Sebastian completed his brace via free kick. The consolation goal for the struggling on the road Chicago came from Accam. Score: 3-1.

We entered the third day of the round with another exciting game. Philadelphia Union hosted Montreal Impact as they were hoping for a win. They were the dominant side in the first half with a brace by Alberg and a goal from Sapong between. The joy ended when Piatti got one for the visitors. The host got somehow confused and Jackson Hamel decided to answer with a brace himself for the point. Score: 3-3.

Houston Dynamo comfortably won against San Jose Earthquakes at home. The host was awarded a penalty in the 9thminute which was executed by Torres. That was all for the first half. Dynamo had a second goal from Elis to complete the win. Score: 2-0.

It wasn’t a surprise that Portland Timbers was the dominant side when they met at home Vancouver Whitecaps. Nagbe and Mattocks scored in the first half. In the 59th minute Montero’s penalty kick was blocked but he was the fast on the rebound and scored the consolation goal for the visitors. Score: 2-1.

Once again New England Revolution managed just a point in their second home game in the round against D.C. United. Nguyen opened the scoring in the 5th minute but later the guests came back with goals from Jeffrey and Le Toux. Three minutes into the second have Franklin scored into his own net. Score: 2-2.

New York Red Bulls blanked Columbus Crew at home. Muyl scored the first goal and the second came from Royer with a penalty kick. The visitors had many chances in the second half but Luis Robles had some big saves. Score: 2-0.

FC Dallas earned the three points at home against Sporting Kansas City. The first half went unnoticed. The only goal was produced in the 77th minute by Figueroa. But the hero of the match was Carlos Gruezo dealing with Feilhaber and Espinoza for most of the time preventing them to do the damage. Score: 1-0.

Real Salt Lake got demolished by Atlanta United. Villalba scored the only goal in the first half. A minute after the start of the second half, Asad made it two. In the 69th minute Rusnak had the only goal for the host. The visitors didn’t get distracted and in the last seconds of stoppage time Vazquez scored his first goal. Score: 1-3.

New York City FC lost at home to Orlando City. Larin gave the lead to the visitors in the 31st minute. He came back in the 51st minute to complete his brace. The host started to play better and D. Villa scored the consolation goal. Score: 1-2.

Another unexpected result happened at StubHub Centre when LA Galaxy lost to the Seattle Sounders. The visitors opened the scoring with a goal from Dempsey in the 29th minute. Six minutes later Cole scored an own goal to add to the host misery. Just a minute before the end of the first half Morris brought the win. Score: 0-3.

Minnesota United had their first home win at home over Colorado Rapids. The first half went goalless. In the 72nd minute Ibarra scored his first MLS goal which turned to be the only one in the game. The rapids showed an awful display. Score: 1-0.

Gameweek 9 Preview

Back to normal for a week before we jump back in the doubles with four teams to play twice in the next round.

TOR ( W 2 D 4 L 1 ) vs HOU ( W 4 D 1 L 2 )

Toronto had their second win for this season. It looks like Greg Vanney has found the winning formula. Most important Giovinco is back in full force. There is no need to say that the Atomic Ant will be one of the most popular transfers in this week.

There is a noticeable improvement with Houston at late. They are holding to third position in the West. Very good at home with at least 2 goals in the last 5 games. This time they will visit another improving team. The obvious playmakers are Torres and Elis and don’t be surprised if you see one of them around.

MTL ( W 1 D 4 L 2 ) vs VAN ( W 2 D 1 L 4 )

The Falcons still can’t get into the rhythm of this season. With one win in seven games they can’t be proud. The return of Piatti gives some hope and against the equally shaky opponent he wold be a popular pick this week.

The Caps keep losing and winning in turns. They seem to be good at home but very bad on the road. The team failed to win in 11 of the last 12 away games. And have not scored in 9 of them. Apart from Montero for the very brave I can’t see anyone else.

OLC ( W 5 D 0 L 1 ) vs COL ( W 1 D 1 L 4 )

The Lions have won 7 of the last 8 games. The win in the last round was their third in a row. They jumped to the top of the Eastern Conference with two points lead.
Larin the Canadian Messi as he is called struck again with a brace, second for this season. With six goals so far and in this home game he will be must have player.

The Rapids have lost their last six away games conceding at least two goals in three of them. It could be due to absence of Sjoberg but the defence is unrecognisable this season. I can’t trust any player against OLC which is in top form.

CLB ( W 4 D 1 L 3 ) vs NYCFC ( W 3 D 1 L 3 )

The Crew are second now in the Eastern Conference with the same stats with the third NYRB but with a goals difference. I find them very inconsistent. Meram scores from time to time but he is expensive for his returns.

The Blues were unbeaten at home in 11 of the last 12 games. Now that is over as they lost to Orlando. They appear to be inconsistent at home and away. There is only one player who can be relied on and that is Villa with 5 goals and 3 assists.

NYRB ( W 4 D 1 L 3 ) vs CHI ( W 3 D 2 L 2 )

The Bulls are undefeated in 18 of the last 19 home games with clean sheets in the last four. With this form and the crippled on the road Fire I can see from now the likes of BWP, Kljestan and Long in many teams for this game.

The Fire dismal away form is still on. They have lost 16 of the last 17 games on the road. In fact they have only won once away in 44 attempts and that is stretching back to 2014. I can’t see them doing much in this game and I would avoid any players.

DAL ( W 4 D 2 L 0 ) vs POR ( W 5 D 1 L 2 )

The Texans are still to lose a game. They are having a good season so far. Their defence looks better. The team has won the last 6 home games and scored at least two goals in 10 of the last 12. The goals here come from different players, it’s your choice.

The Timbers are holding the top spot in the west and will try the second Dallas not to replace them. Their record on the road is a mixed bag so it will be interesting to see how this one will go. I expect goals from both sides. Valeri and Adi could do well.

MIN ( W 2 D 2 L 4 ) vs SJ ( W 2 D 3 L 3 )

The Loons had their second win and they look like will be fighting to prove the team is not as bad as everyone thought in the beginning. Ramirez and Molino are still popular picks. Ibarra with his first goal could be their new star.

The Quakes managed a point out of the two games. They are notorious with doing badly on the road. The last time they won a game away is dating back in August last year. It’s up to you if you still want to keep Godoy and Lima. I am not.

SKS ( W 3 D 3 L 1 ) vs RSL ( W 2 D 2 L 4 )

Kansas has become a very unpredictable team. It blows hot and cold at all times. Prior the last game they were undefeated in 6 matches. Feilhaber is a totally different player this season. If you think they will do well against Real go for Benny or Dwyer.

Real had good home record before that shameful loss to Atlanta. Away from home they can’t be trusted. Rusnak and Yura can surprise but I am not taking the risk.

SEA ( W 2 D 3 L 2 ) vs NE ( W 2 D 3 L 3 )

The Sounders snapped their six winless streak on the road with a good win over LA. They could have a chance in this one at home against what looks to be not the NE we know at late. Maybe is time to try Lodeiro and Dempsey again.

The Revs only managed a point from each game in the last round. Before that they had 7 home wins scoring at least 2 goals in them. They will play Seattle, with only one win at home. I suppose Nguyen will remain in many teams as he can score at any time.

LA ( W 2 D 0 L 5 ) vs PHI ( W 0 D 3 L 4 )

The Galaxy lost for a second time in a row. The team doesn’t look the powerhouse what we remember from last year. Dos Santos has done nothing since the opening game. To keep or not to keep Alessandrini is a serious decision to be made.

Philly is struggling in all accounts. They have not won a game this season and are cemented at the bottom. The team has lost 8 in the last 11 games conceding at least 2 goals in 9 of them, I am not getting any player especially away to LA.

ATL ( W 3 D 2 L 2 ) vs D.C.U ( W 2 D 2 L 3 )

Unlike the other new franchise Atlanta is doing very well. Three wins and two draws is not bad for someone new in MLS. Villalba with 4 goals and 2 assists can’t be ignored. The same goes for Almiron with 2 and 4 respectively.

DCU continues with the inconsistency. They have conceded at least 2 goals in the 7 of the last 8 away games. Would you chance any player from this team away to a team full of desire to establish? I will give it a miss.
