Fantasy MLS GW 9 Review and GW 10 Preview

Gameweek 9 Review

In the opening game of the round, Toronto FC welcomed Houston Dynamo . The visitors built a wall with five defenders but didn’t help. Altidore found the net twice in the first half, in 16th and 32nd minutes. Score: 2-0.

Montreal Impact hosted Vancouver Whitecaps. Donadel was quick to open the scoring in the 9th minute but 20 minutes later Jacobson equalised. The caps continued to be the attacking side and Techera scored the winner in the 79th minute. Score: 1-2.

Orlando City had a comfortable win against Colorado Rapids. The first half went goalless. Rivas scored in the 70th minute and Kaka made it two in the end. Score: 2-0.

Columbus Crew failed to win at home to New York City. Harrison scored the first goal in the 8th minute and Higuain equalised in the 29th. Four minutes into the second half Kamara added a second goal for the host. Herrera levelled the score and in the 76th minute Harrison completed his brace to bring the three points for NYC. Score: 2-3.

New York Red Bulls had another win at home this time against Chicago Fire. BWP scored the only goal in the first half. In 59th minute, Nikolic got the equaliser. Lawrence scored in the 71st minute to bring the victory for the host. Score: 2-1.

FC Dallas shared a point each with Portland Timbers. The visitors scored first in the 30th minutes with Adi. Urruti levelled in the 61st minute and ten minutes later Blanco brought back the lead for the Timbers. Akindele scored the equaliser. Score: 2-2.

Minnesota United lost at home to San Jose Earthquakes, After a goalless first half the only goal in the game came from Jungwirth in the 54th minute. Score: 0-1.

Sporting Kansas City won comfortably at home against Real Salt Lake. Feilhaber scored the only goal in the first half. Dwyer and Fernando added two more. Score:3-0.

There was a real battle between Seattle Sounders and New England Revs. Kobayashi and Agudelo scored in the first half for the guests. Agudelo added another one in the second. The host answered with goals from Lodeiro, Bruin and Alonso. Score:3-3.

Even with a dominating performance keeping 64% possession, LA Galaxy only ended up with a point against Philadelphia Union in a goalless game. Score: 0-0.

The round ended with Atlanta United hosting D.C.United. The home team looked the dominant side and Jones was quick to score in the 9th minute. But in the 25th minute Parkhurst scored in his own net. Acosta doubled the score for the visitors in the 37th minute. Le Toux added another one in the second half. Score: 1-3.

Gameweek 10 Preview

Yes, we are getting into serious business here. This week we have four teams playing twice: Orlando, Toronto, NYRB and SKC. It’s only the beginning. Next week two more and after that ten, yes 10 on a double.
ATTENTION: The round starts on Wednesday which means we have only 3 days to make decisions and transfers.

TOR(W 3 D 4 L 1) vs OLC(W 6 D 0 L 1)

The Canadians are undefeated in the last nine home games and have lost only once on the road. The team will play away in second game against Seattle. The question is would you have Altidore after his brace and five goals in total or spend two million more for Gio? Edwards at that price and regular starts is worth consideration.

The Lions sitting top in the East with four consecutive wins. Larin didn’t do much in last game but he is staying in my team. The same goes for Spector. This game will be a busy one with many goals from both sides.

SKS(W 4 D 3 L 1) vs NYRB(W 5 D 1 L 3)

The Kansas boys are undefeated in the last 13 home games. They have scored at least two goals in 7 of them. Dwyer and Benny should do well in this one.
The Bulls are second with only two points behind Orlando and have three consecutive wins. BWP and Kljestan could give some hard time to SKC.

COL(W 1 D 1 L 5) vs VAN(W 3 D 1 L 4)

The Rapids have only one win and lost the last four games in a row. I can’t see many players picked from this team especially defenders.

The Caps keep blowing hot and cold. I still find it risky to select any players here.

SEA(W 2 D 4 L 2) vs TOR

The Sounders look very unsettled so far in the season. They do score goals but conceding quite few at the same time. Lodeiro and Dempsey could do some damage against what might be a tired Toronto in their second game of the week.
Toronto already covered above

D.C.U(W 3 D 2 L 3 ) vs MTL(W 1 D 4 L 3)

DCU are usually good at home and playing shaky MTL who are still to win on the road gives them a chance. If you want a gamble Acosta and Sam are your men. Le Toux looks like is finding his feet on the ground again.

The Canadiens have won only one game out of eight. Piatti remains the only attraction.

PHI(W 0 D 4 L 4) vs NYRB

Philly is the only team without a single win so far. In fact they have failed to win in the last 16 games and conceded at least 2 goals in the last 5 before last week’s draw.

NYRB already covered above

CLB(W 4 D 1 L 4) vs NER(W 2 D 4 L 3)

The Crew lost for a second time in a row at home and away. Saying that Ola and Meram could do well against the very bad on the road NE.

The Revs have lost 5 of the last six away games prior to the draw with Seattle. I can’t see them doing much in this game but for the very brave, Nguyen or Agudelo.

HOU(W 4 D 1 L 3) vs OLC

Houston has failed to win in 18 of the last 20 away games. It’s almost two years since they have won against a team from the Eastern Conference away. Torres and Elis are doing well but looks inconsistent. At home against in top form OLC will be interesting.
Orlando already covered above

RSL(W 2 D 2 L 5) vs DAL(W 4 D 3 L 0)

Real lost for a second time in a row. I don’t fancy any player for this game.

Dallas is without a loss so far and won in six home games before the draw with Portland. Urruti and Akindele are back on the scene with a goal each last week.

LA(W 2 D 1 L 5) vs CHI(W 3 D 2 L 3)

The Galaxy are unrecognisable this season. In the last five home games lost three and won one against 10 men MTL. Alessandrini has gone quiet and Dos Santos is out of the picture. You can chance one of them against notoriously bad Fire on the road.

We can clearly say that Chicago are mess on the road. The team has lost 17 of the last 19 away games. If you are adventures enough, Bastian or Nikolic can be chanced.

SJ(W 3 D 3 L 3) vs POR(W 5 D 2 L 2)

Finally the Quakes won last week after losing in six of the previous seven away games. Godoy was totally lost since the first two games but somehow brings the points.

The Timbers are topping the West table and still managed a draw away to Dallas. With Valeri injured the only choice here is Adi with six goals. Blanco is a punt.

MIN(W 2 D 2 L 5) vs SKC

The Loons lost at home last week and I think they might do it again against what looks to be revived SKC. Perhaps Venegas if you feel lucky.

Kansas already covered above

NYCFC(W 4 D 1 L 3) vs ATL(W 3 D 2 L 3)

The Blues still managed to win away to Crew without Villa. David is expected to be back but Harrison looks attractive once again after his brace. The team should win this one, so a couple of players will be good to have.

Atlanta is becoming one of the most unpredictable teams at the moment. They keep losing, winning and drawing at all times. I don’t see them doing well in this away game but somehow Almiron and Villalba attract attention. It’s up to you.
