MLS Fantasy Game week 32 Review and Game week 33 Preview

It wasn’t the happiest of starts in this short round. Many managers had Hairston in their teams and a lot of them captained him. An hour before the deadline the line-ups showed that he was missing!

It turned out that he had a broken leg and thanks to MLS this information came at the 11th hour as usual. What a mess that was for many. Later on we still didn’t get the fireworks that we had expected from the top guns, with the exception of Badji and Gashi. The Dream Team was entirely taken over by Houston and Colorado.

Goalmachine didn’t have a great round but is still in top 5 in the FFF league. Well done to Secret Zorro with that tremendous score of 96 points.

Looking back at GW 32

Colorado Rapids won away at Houston Dynamo. In a lively game, Badji opened the scoring in the 12th minute, then in the last minute of the first half Manotas equalised. Badji scored again in the 54th minute. Gashi made it three for the visitors. Manotas scored another one but that wasn’t enough for the three points. Score :2-3.

Seattle Sounders was held at home by the bottom team Houston Dynamo. In the first half the host totally dominated the game. In the second half they slowed down and the visitors looked livelier. Lodeiro and Morris created so many chances but with no finish. They had eleven corner kicks which didn’t help them to earn the three points. Score: 0-0.

Chicago Fire drew at home against Columbus Crew. Jahn opened the scoring sheet in the 13th minute for the visitors. Parkhurst had an own goal in the 53rd minute and four minutes later De Leeuw scored for the host. The final goal was from Jahn again. Score: 2-2.

Colorado Rapids won the second game in this round against San Jose Earthquakes. Kevin Doyle opened the scoring in the first half. In the 57th minute the visitors were awarded with penalty which was converted by Wondolowski. The wining goal came from Doyle again with another penalty. Score: 2-1.

Looking ahead to GW 33

Once again we only have two days until the next round kicks off, so be fast with the transfers. There are no more doubles or byes in the final two rounds of the season, it’s all about fixtures, who is playing who and where. We all have unlimited transfers this week. Now it’s the time to ditch the deadwood and set up your team for the final push.

Chicago Fire ( W 6 D 10 L 16 ) vs New England Revolution ( W 10 D 9 L 13 )

Chicago lost their first game and then surprised Columbus with a draw thanks to the own goal from Parkhurst. De Leeuw scored his fifth goal for the season. Alvarez is trying hard. I don’t know if you will have space for any of them. To finish the season they will be away to Toronto. Scary!

The Revs have improved lately and are sitting just under the red line for play-offs. Kei Kamara is back in form with two goals and two assists in the last three games. Nguyen, Rowe and Fagundez have become extremely inconsistent. Their last game will be Montreal at home.

D.C. United ( W 10 D 13 L 9 ) vs New York City FC ( W 14 D 9 L 9 )

United is unbeaten in the last five games. Neagle played only 19 minutes in round 30 but still managed a goal and an assist Then came back in the next round with a brace. Sam is another choice with two goals and an assist in the last three games. After the brace three weeks ago Mullins has done nothing. Their final game is away to Orlando.

The Blues moved to the top of the Eastern Conference, although just for a day. Villa scored a brace and went top in the Golden Boot race with 21 goals matching BWP. We know the rest of possible picks with the likes of Lampard (if he is back), McNamara and Pirlo. The defence is not bad with eight clean sheets and Brillant and Matarrita look good.

Montreal Impact ( W 11 D 11 L 10 ) vs Toronto FC ( W 13 D 10 L 9 )

The Impacts won their last two games and are fourth in the East. Piatti had a goal and assisted another in the DGW but blanked in second game. Drogba played just 21 minutes in both games and still ended up with an assist. Oduro scored a goal in each of the games. In the last round this team will play New England away.

Toronto guaranteed their play-off spot but have only one win in the last six games. There is a lot of news to suggest that Giovinco will be back for this game. The question is what will be his fitness level after such a long absence? Altidore scored just a goal in the last two games. Bradley, Johnson and Osorio couldn’t do anything. The defenders are still decent and bring quite few bonus points. Last game is with Chicago at home.

New York Red Bulls ( W 14 D 9 L 9 ) vs Columbus Crew SC ( W 8 D 12 L 12 )

The Bulls leapfrogged the Blues to go top in the Eastern Conference. Both teams have the same points and only goal difference separates them. Bradley scored again in the last game and now share top place in the Golden Boot with Villa. Kljestan scored and assisted. I am pretty sure these two will be back in most teams. In the last round the team will play Philadelphia on the road

The Crew missed their last chance for a play-off place. They won their first game but the draw with Chicago spoiled the party. Ola Kamara played just 21 minutes in the first game and didn’t show up in the second. Jahn had a brace but I think that was a one off event.

Philadelphia Union ( W 11 D 9 L 12 ) vs Orlando City SK ( W 7  D 14 L 11 )

The Union is hanging onto the last sixth place in the Eastern. They now have five games with no win. I don’t know what’s wrong with Sapong with eight blanks in a row. Perhaps Pontius is the only choice with two goals and an assist in the last three games. They will finish the season at home against the Bulls.

The Lions have lost four games in the last five. They are second bottom and out of play-off contention. Larin has blanked in the last three games and Kaka has blanked in the last five. The same goes for Molino. They will play D.C. United in the last round.

FC Dallas ( W 16 D 8 L 8 ) vs Seattle Sounders FC ( W 13 D 6 L 13)

Dallas is now second in the overall league with a point behind Colorado. Urruti has dropped his standard and blanked in the last two games. The same goes for Diaz, Barrios and Acosta. Saying that they will fight to finish first, so it’s not a bad idea to have at least a couple of players from this team. It the last round the team plays LA away.

The Sounders have improved a lot in the last few weeks but made it hard for themselves with that goalless draw. They can still obtain a play-off place in this round but Portland has to lose at home. Nevertheless they are unbeaten in the last five games and four consecutive wins before the draw. Lodeiro has gone a bit quiet lately. Alonso had two goals in the last four games. Marshal and Jones are generating good points in the last few weeks. Most likely Lodeiro will be kept in all teams. It won’t be an easy game but they will do their best as they have something to play for. In the final round they will play RSL at home.

Houston Dynamo ( W 7 D 12 L 13 ) vs LA Galaxy ( W 11 D 15 L 6 )

The Dynamos lost one and drew the other in last round. Even though they have been eliminated a long time ago, they played well in both games. The only player who deserves some attention is Manotas who had a brace in the first game but only played eighteen minutes in the second. The team will play their final game to Colorado.

The Galaxy boys have just one win in the last five games. They still occupy third place in the West and have their play-off spot in the bag. Keane scored a brace in GW 30 and blanked in the next. Dos Santos surprisingly did nothing in the last two outings. Gerrard is slowly coming back from injury.  The last clean sheet the team had was seven rounds ago. WARNING: Keane and Dos Santos are both questionable for this game. The first with an undisclosed injury and the second with unknown reasons.

Portland Timbers ( W 11 D 8 L 13 ) vs Colorado Rapids ( W 15 D 12 L 5 )

The Timbers are sitting just below the red line for the play-offs and have a slim chance to get there. This is the only team which hasn’t won on the road this season and they lost the last two games. Adi blanked in the last two outings. Nagbe hasn’t scored since round eleven. Do you want Valeri back? I find him too inconsistent. The team will finish the season with a game against Vancouver on the road.

Colorado is top now, a point ahead of Dallas. The Rapids have the best defence in the league with only five lost games and 13 clean sheets. Big contribution for that is from Howard since he joined the team. He has had three clean sheets in the last six games. It’s truly amazing, they finished bottom last year, and now are fighting for the title.

Real Salt Lake ( W 12 D 9 L 11 ) vs Sporting Kansas City ( W 12 D 7 L 13 )

Real is without a win in the last five games. Plata had blanked in the last four games. Jorales has done nothing in the last seven appearances. If you need a cheap defender Glad is the only one. Their last game will be away to Seattle.

Sporting is sitting in the final play-off place in The Western Conference. They have won just once in the last five games. Dwyer has four goals and an assist in the last four. At the same time Feilhaber has five assists in the last four. So these two can be considered for a return. The final game for them is at home against San Jose.

San Jose Earthquakes ( W 8 D 13 L 11 ) vs Vancouver Whitecaps ( W 9 D 8 L 15 )

The Quakes won the first game and lost the second. Their chances of being in the play-offs are almost zero. Wondolowski scored and has twelve goals but is very inconsistent. I don’t think there will any players from this team picked by the managers.

The Caps are out of the play-offs race. They probably had the worst season ever – last year they finished second. Porales is suspended for this game Ousted was the best goal keeper last year but not any more. I simply can’t see anybody risking with a player from this team. They will finish at home against Portland next week.

Captain Projections

1. Bradley Wright Philips– at home against shaky Crew and he is a goal machine.

2. Villa– in completion with Bradley Wright Philips for the Golden Boot.

3. Pontius– two home games.

4. Giovinco– Just because he is Gio.

Notes for your Diary

*Teams who are already in the playoffs:

NYRB/ Toronto/ NYCFC/ Dallas/ LA/ Colorado.

Teams to fight for a place:

Montreal/ DCU/ Philadelphia/ RSL/ Philadelphia/ SKC/ NE/ Columbus.

Expect lots of rotations from teams already qualified. They will rest their big guns for the playoffs.Colorado’s manager already made a statement that he will rotate many players. Try to avoid players from teams which are already out with no chance, most likely they will play with their B teams. And these are: Houston/ Chicago/ Vancouver/ Orlando.

*Philadelphia is the only team which has two home games. The Union had 8 wins at home. The only team with two away games is Columbus. The team has lost 9 on the road this year.

*All games will start and finish On Sunday. The teams from the East start at 3 PM EDT – 8 PM BST. The teams from the West at 5 PM EDT – 10 PM BST.
At least we will be able to see the lineups from five games before the deadline.

Deadline: 16.10 at 3 PM EDT- 8 PM BST

Best of luck to all FFF Managers

  1. 98 points :D.

Looks like i am up to 28th in the Fantasy First league and still in the top 500 Overall.

Definitely continued my run from last season and maintained it for most of the season, only had a small hiccup.

A slow start to my FPL, but its already been better than last season.

At this stage i was ranked 3mil OR, but this time i am still within the 500k. Will take that while i am trying to find the right team. Better not lose my guard, because last season it toke only 1 week and i ended up chasing for the top 1mil till Christmas.

  2. I didn’t do as well as I had hoped, I dropped down a couple of places in the GW29 league
