Fantasy Football First 2017/18 Site Team for game week 37

This season the FF1st team are proud to announce we have a top 1000 manager running the official Fantasy Football First site team. His job will be to tell you how and why he has picked certain players and formations for the Fantasy Premier League, and explain the reasoning behind any changes along the way. Introducing manager Nomde Guerre and his FF1st site team.

Game week 36

A difficult and unusual week in which had we sat on our hands and played the safe game we would have suffered badly for it…..and fallen like a brick! The final score was 57, which included a big -12 hit. The score was 13 points above the average, but factoring in the -12 hit meant we were just 1 point above the average . This, however, does not tell the whole story of what could have been a killer FPL week.

We took a -12 on Friday night, taking out Alonso, Lukaku, Willian and Mahrez. The reason being these players have IMO come to the end of their useful FPL life as regards the site team. A -12 hit is not for the faint hearted I’ll tell you

It actually turned out this was one of my best decisions of what has been a difficult and very demanding season.

Alonso did not play meaning we would have played Morgan (who scored zero points). I feel Morgan was a terrible buy in the GW33 WC, but we weren’t to know that Leicester would beat the Germans to the Majorca sun loungers. Morgan’s replacement was Alexander Arnold who got 6 points – but it could have been so much more had he put the big chance in that was created by Salah. I’ll take that 6 points as it’s a 2 profit over the Morgan score (after the -4 hit). Also, TAA should become very useful in GW38.

Next up Lukaku, he went off early injured which is making him a big doubt going forward and Jose indicated he doesn’t know if he’ll make the cup final. Jesus came in for him and brought us 9 points, take away the -4 hit and 1 point Luka would have brought in, and there’s another 4 point profit.

Mahrez Beachwear and all failed yet again ( why didn’t I sell earlier? ) and got another 2 point haul. His replacement Sterling got 3 assists and really should have had a couple of goals too, he got us 12 points however so take off the -4 and the 2 Mahrez would have got us it’s a nice 6 points profit.

Willian, he didn’t even start as I suspected, and I’ve heard of a falling out with Conte! If you have him then my advice is to “get shot”. He got 1 point. His replacement was Salah who was more insurance cover than anything. I couldn’t have sat through Salah v Stoke for 90 mins chewing my nails after what he did to Roma: as it happens he actually blanked for once, scoring 3 FPL points, no minus hit points this time as he’s the free transfer.

All in all I’m quite happy. We fell from a start rank of 8.7k to 10.4k. Normally I would be gutted at this outcome, yet had the above hits not taken place I would currently be sitting 15.5k. That’s a result in my book – damage limitation!

The team prior to the hits was awful, it was essentially the DGW34 team as nothing changed last week in GW35 when FH was utilised. These late season hits addressed the squad issues and sets us up nicely for the DGW37.

I have seen top FPL accounts avoiding what we did this week and they have suffered for it. They are now bringing in the very same players a week later and taking the hits to do so. This is madness when they could have reaped the benefits in GW36 and been better set for DGW37. I do however understand some FPL managers stance on hitting even though I strongly disagree with it so each to their own I suppose.

The rest of the team

At the back

Smalling and DDG lost their CS and both finished on just 2 points. Lowton faired better getting a CS for a score of 6 just missing out on bonus.

In attack

Son blanked and I’m now considering offloading. He was taken off again around 73 mins this time for Sissoko, not ideal getting only 70 mins per game which is what’s been happening for a while now. No real threat of a goal, and because of rotation concerns next week I’m considering cutting loose from Son. Spurs also looked flat. Gary Neville on the Sky Sports commentary pointed out the muted celebrations after Alli scored. I hadn’t even noticed. Yet he was right. There’s something not quite right there, and it’s showing all over the pitch.

Kane did eventually score but he was awful in the first half. I’m now seriously considering Jesus as captain in the DGW37 because the fixtures are better, the team is on another level to Spurs attack wise – same old City, always scoring!

Groß blanked again as did Arnie. I want rid of my Brighton pair of Groß and Murray even though they’re on a DGW. There are no points coming IMO, so I need to move one or both on.

So where does this leave us?

A fall in rank; but for once a fall I’m OK about. The repercussions would, literally, have ended my season. I feel the right decisions have been made and I’m just thankful to have come out with minimal damage. It could have been carnage!

Game week 37

Team as it stands with no moves as yet, I’m considering a few options.

In case you hadn’t realised, this is a DGW, I have planned this team based on DGW34 but things have changed a lot since then, players I’m happy to have this week –

  • DDG-Smalling-Monreal- Sterling-Kane-Jesus-Arnie
  • Optional – Son-Salah
  • Don’t really want -Groß-Morgan

Transfer considerations?

There is one that sorts 2 issues but only gives one viable DGW player. Groß to Rambo, Murray to Ayew to facilitate the Rambo move. Exact funds! This is the easy option, but given where we are do we throw the dice again?

Sell Salah? Good point is he would allow upgrades elsewhere, bad point you’re selling Salah …… again! He only came back in last week for fear of ending my season v Stoke, Selling a week later is not ideal especially with a great home fixture in GW38 while chasing the golden boot which for me he’s already won.

Son out makes more sense, Groß too.

Players I’m interested in? Rambo, Pogba, Mkhitaryan, Silva, Sane, KDB, Alli

I’m going to have to consider all angles here: Arsenal? Will they win through into the Europa final? If so will Rambo play? Will Mkhitaryan play? Athletico Madrid will be hot favs to get into the final having not conceded a goal at home in 13 games. I will have to wait until Thursday night to make plans, as I can’t buy Rambo only to see the Gooners win into the final and see Rambo rested and saved for the final.

This is the penultimate GW, my penultimate game as site team manager. I have to nail these moves, get it right and the top 5k is on. Get it wrong and it’s the season down the pan. It’s all on these last 2 weeks ….. no pressure then :)

I will update on this thread as this week goes on.

BTW, one point to note, AnfieldExpress has pulled the plug on the leaked Liverpool team news, so anyone waiting on this may just want to proceed as normal as we won’t see the Liverpool team in advance this week or next.

Any questions just post them in this thread and I’ll get on when I can

Good luck and may your arrows be green  :)

  2. Sterling to Salah for a 4 point hit? Cannot get back Salah for GW 38. Worth it?

  3. Playing BB chip. Already on a -4 hit. Should I take another hit for Murray? 1.3 ITB.

Chasing 27 points, this is the week to either smash it or get smashed!

    • @IvanTheTerrible what’s this Ivan?
DDG and Smalling aren’t going to start
      Romero starting in goal
Carrick likely starts, possibly as captain in his final game
This team is all wrong mate

      • @NomdeGuerre
I know this very well matey. I posted this today when the news first came out. It’s one of those things we have to face every year. Full day ahead to think about all this :idunno:

        • @IvanTheTerrible hang on man, this is the team sheets for the first game of the DGW

          Ivan
You’ve been watching far too much FMLS

        • @IvanTheTerrible looked into this last night
Jose has named 7 of his team already
Martial Rashford Romero Carrick off the top of my head are starting
Carrick as I suggested to you actually is the captain.
Seen a few on twitter buying Carrick, may be method in their madness as I’ve seen it suggested on some of the twitter chats I’m in that he may even get on pens but given Martial starts he’ll be on them IMO

  8. Word of caution to all
    Keep away from Mane
He’s picked up an injury in training today apparently
