Fantasy Football First 2017/18 Site Team for game week 16

This season the FF1st team are proud to announce we have a top 1000 manager running the official Fantasy Football First site team. His job will be to tell you how and why he has picked certain players and formations for the Fantasy Premier League, and explain the reasoning behind any changes along the way. Introducing manager Nomde Guerre and his FF1st site team.

Game Week 15 review

My points total for the week was 54.

Game week 15 started with Chelsea v Newcastle in the Saturday lunch time game. A Hazard brace and 3 bonus points meant a great 15 point haul to pay back some of the pain suffered in game week 14 when he was benched only to come on for a 1 point cameo. Morata scored and chipped in with 2 bonus for a score of 8. However, new signing Christensen only got 2 points after Chelsea conceded to a Newcastle side that I honestly could not see scoring. Moreover, Christensen hit the post with a header in the first half teasing the idea of future points. What a great start to the game week.

After the early kick off, things did not go quite so well.

Firstly Moreno was not in the Liverpool squad; a disaster as I really felt Liverpool could get a clean sheet at Brighton because The Seagulls play it tight, don’t score many and don’t concede many. Yet on in this encounter Brighton conceded on five occasions. Salah, our only other Liverpool player, only got an assist for 5 point. Given his form this season a 5 point return feels disappointing.

Naughton came off my bench for Moreno, but after looking solid early Swansea on conceded 2 goals at Stoke and thus Kyle returned just the one FPL point.

Ward got us 2 points. Again Burnley looked like getting a clean sheet, only to concede late on. This is becoming a habit for Burnley.

To complete our defence roundup, De Gea played in the Saturday evening game at Arsenal. To say David’s been a “wise investment”, coming in to my team for Foster, is an understatement. Arsenal trailed 0-2 but absolutely peppered the Man U goal with 31 shots (compared to 8 from Man U). The result was a DDG goal-keeping super-show. Sadly, he eventually conceded, but the 14 saves added 4 save points to his tally, while his performance also eared 2 bonus points from the BPS, for a total of 8 points.

Ramsey had a part in the only Arsenal goal, beating the offside trap to supply the assist for the goal. He got us 6 points which included a bonus point. In the same game Pogba, who we sold to “downgrade” to Ramsey to gain funds for an upgrade in defence, was red carded. This was after he had made 2 assists (at which point I was thinking what have I done selling Pogba!) All is well, however, as Ramsay outscored Pogba 6-5 and Pogba is now serving a 3 game suspension – one less thing to worry about this week. I feel I may even be able to buy back for game week 19 with his price reduced by £0.2m or so.

Richarlison let us down, getting booked for dissent and gaining only 1 point. He has a good run of fixtures coming so hopes are high for good points in coming weeks.

Groundhog Day

Or is it Kanehog Day?

Yet again I captained Kane.

Yet again he blanked.

Sound familiar? Yes it’s becoming a regular discussion.

In game week 15 I decided to “play it safe”, captaining the highly owned Kane who played away to a leaky Watford defence (conceded 4 at home in midweek games). Hazard was my original captain who would have delivered an additional 13 points. Oh, how I rue that change! It would have made the game week.

Now I know this is all “ifs and buts”, BUT the additional points would have ranked us inside the top 100k globally – which was our Christmas target. That’s the last time I captain Kane until Spurs form improves.

We went from rank 177k to 168k. This is not good enough! I can’t recall gaining a green arrow but feeling so utterly depressed. The final push is now on to get into that top 100k by Boxing Day. This rank is needed to have a strong platform for the second half of season (when I’m always at my best) to deliver a rank to be proud of come the close of the season.

Plans for game week 16

At this time no moves are planned. The team is well set-up and my only concern is to have a starter in the first position on the bench.

Looking at my bench, Niasse is my biggest concern as he was not used by new manager, Sam Alardyce, which is a concern moving forward. Calvert Lewin did start to deliver a goal and an assist. I have £0.3m in the bank, which ius the exact amount required to change Niasse to Calvert Lewin. Indeed, I nearly made this move on Sunday night to catch the rise on Calvert Lewin, but I held off because I was concerned about the midweek European games.

Moreover, Niasse seems to be “price locked”, because his “percent towards a price change” on the player price monitoring sites is zero. Therefore, I feel safer holding onto Niasse for this weekend to see if Sam uses him or DCL. That’s the plan anyway. I remain concerned that if Niasse’s price does fall then I cannot buy Calvert Lewin, so I will monitor the price change progress. But the current plan is “do nothing” and roll the free transfer.

Best of luck for game week 16 , and as usual, if there are any changes of plan I will post a comment below.

  1. Need help to go up the rank…now I am bit clueless. The attack looks steady, defence looks okay in pen and paper, but not returning…. rank 389k (improved marginally, still way behind my 10k target). Waiting for todays games, if to be played…then go for 1 transfer at least. Bank balance is low to change something in attack.
    2FT, 0.1m ITB
    Pope, Elliot
    Otamendi, Christensen, Mustafi, Morgan, Francis
    Haz,Salah,Sterling,Richarlison,RLC
    Kane,Morata,DCL

    • @GoalMachine looks solid! Only players I’d look at shipping out would be Morgan and Francis!
      4.6-Tarkowski/Kiko/Gomez/Duffy etc + >4.4-Dunk/Kenny/Masuaku/Ogbonna
      Or
      2×4.5-Zanka/Kabasele(both nice fixtures!!)

    • @GoalMachine just looked at your linked team
Nothing at all wrong with what you have, it’s a great team you’ve got.
      Francis to a Watford defender
      Mustafi, if he’s OK hold
If not look to see if Jones starts today
If you really want to shake it up maybe consider what I am
      Morata to Firmino
You may then be able to go RLC to Ramsey? Not sure as I don’t know your selling values

      Don’t panic mate
Good side you have, you can tweak it or do the Firmino move and get Rambo

Further down the line Elliot to Speroni if he holds his place

      • @NomdeGuerre Thank you for the advice, yes I need to make some tweaks to go up. I have 0.1m ITB.
        (1) Can do Francis (4.4) > Cabasele (4.5) OR, Morgan(4.5) > Kiko (4.6)…I like Kiko more.
        (2) Mustafi (5.4) — I am not sure…holding as of now, unless I need fund…Jones (5.3) is a straight swap though. That will help me to do Francis > Kiko
        (3) Speroni – Guess will not keep his position…waiting to see
        OR
        (4) I like the Rambo+Firmino over Morata+RLC…..short by 0.5m.Then I have to sell Mustafi > Kiko or, Otamendi > Jones. Hold Francis and Morgan for the time being.

  2. Shb
    Bad news mate
    Rambo is done

Wenger: “Aaron Ramsey couldn’t play at the end. He had a hamstring problem.”

Will be selling tonight more than likely

    • @NomdeGuerre Seems I made a good decide with my transfer this week (so far), almost took a hit to bring in Ramsey, happy I didn’t would’ve been double tragedy.

      • @NomdeGuerre @DeMO I’d planned Ramsey last week too as well as Sakho and a Watford defender in my other teams!! So glad I held off and got Hazard instead…his 2points actually looks quite nice at the moment!!

    • @NomdeGuerre yep. Was watching the game, doesn’t look good at all!

Oh well, we were considering selling him anyway so the decision is made for us now haha :headscratch:

      • @shb He was unlucky
        Great save to deny him
I need to look at a replacement now
Nissse started but off HT not good
        Doesn’t bode well for future
        Sterling starts
Salah has damaged us, so many on as capo his points have knocked me down 9k

        Pen Everton

  3. Bad day today after great start yesterday
    Finished on 64
Hugely disappointing as I started today well inside top 100k at 72k
Finished it 101k so very disappointed

Otamendi was planned next week in a -4
Couldn’t have kept quiet today could he

Problem I have now is Rambo is out with a Hammy
This has caused a big issue as he needs replacing

    Drawn up a -8 plan
    Still considering this however

Naughton is finished on decent fixtures so needs to go
Man City midweek so no CS coming there, one point at best
    Needs to go ASAP
Given Kiko is a risk as regards playing midweek I don’t want to be playing Naughton

    Rambo
    Who to replace with?
At selling value 7.1m not a lot of choice TBH
Shaquiri was considered, still is TBH
Groß has fallen away from early season attack points
It appears selling after his 10 point haul was spot on timing
    Choupo no thanks
He’s playing wide right now and Shaquiri is the best option there.
Doucoure no good as we have Richarlison
One that does fit the bill perfectly for a 2 week punt is Son
Home game v Brighton looks good and promising
Not so good at weekend away to city
After that he gets sold to Pogba ego returns after suspension
Son current price 7.9m, Pogba current price 7.9m

To finance this all something has to give? Correct!!!

Morata to Firmino which I had considered
Can’t say I’m full of confidence after he was rotated today but it means he’s highly likely playing midweek

    Naughton to Otamendi
    Rambo to Son
    Morata to Firmino

    Leaves 0.1m spare
May be able to get Mariapa for Mbemba if he doesn’t rise next weekend

These are moves currently under consideration
    Comments welcome
Going to look at alternatives however as I would prefer to keep it at -4 due to H2H contests midweek
Never ideal starting v an opponent on -8

    • @NomdeGuerre Son a very good call for the BHA game but you may not want to over-burden the side with Spurs due to the BGW. (Then City, then Burnley.)

Very tricky to replace Rambo at 7m unless you forget about Otamendi (very tough call that though). Then Morata to Firmino/Vardy (?) and Rambo to the promised land of Coutinho.

But Otamendi is more important, arguably, than any other move.

      • @Kralin2 Son is only a 2 week punt mate
He goes to Pogba after 2 games
        Perfect price move
        It’s a 2 stage plan
        Pogba has to come back
I made an error selling him ( would have been had he not seen red )

        • @NomdeGuerre OK. The rewards could be high against BHA. Liverpool ripped them apart then they lost to Huddersfield.

Spurs banged in 5 yesterday to calm their nerves. It could be another rout.

Agree about Pogba, though I will have to sacrifice Sterling.

        • @Kralin2 @NomdeGuerre Don’t laugh fellas, but why is no one looking at West Ham? Just look at their fixtures, early doors I know, but isn’t that how we get the diffs. DGW a bonus too…

        • @SecretZorro I’ve been mentioning WHU in other posts, as has Kumast.

I’ve been thinking a WHU defender; Kumast is thinking about their goalie.

          Agree about the fixtures.

        • @SecretZorro PS, for the DGW I’m looking at the aforementioned WHU defender, plus Lloris and Kane. But early days. Someone like Son could be handy, too.

    • OK
      Been assessing these moves
Should be OK regarding rise or falls tonight so going to sleep on it and wait until tomorrow

More I look at this as a plan the more I like, highly likely I will go with these tomorrow

        • @NomdeGuerre sounds logical. Given we’ve got the funds either way, it’s worth sleeping on it

Also, you never know with these price sites there might be no change in value in the end anyway

          Night mate

        • @shb Got lucky on Son, no rise, he’s past the threshold to rise so is nailed to go up tonight, been a wise decision to sleep on it and give some thinking time to see where we are at with things today.

          Thoughts on the moves?
Otamendi we were targeting anyway, he screwed us again yesterday and has become a damaging liability not to own, he must come in as part of defence strengthening.
Good fixtures in what is is going to be this seasons champions and he looks rotation proof which is an overriding factor.
Currently scoring more than Aguero or Jesus

Son is a 2 week punt …. well 1 really as anything he gets at City in the second game is a bonus
The thing with Son is he’s perfect price for us to get Pogba back in 2 weeks time as he’s fallen to the same 7.9m cost as Son, I made a big error in selling Pogba to get Rambo and Christensen one we got off with only because he was red carded, a rare bit of good fortune this season the way it’s worked out.

Losing Morata I’m not overly keen on TBH but he’s the only way of strengthening def and getting Otamendi and ultimately Pogba, it’s a calculated package transfer I tend to call it and the positives far outweigh the negative
Firmino is ideal to replace as his cost works but being “Klopped” who is the new Pep for rotation is not ideal
This leaves only 0.1m to finance a Niasse upgrade to Calvert Lewin which can’t work
Mbemba is the only other issues again we or should I say I can’t upgrade
          You’ve 0.5m spare
Up to you but if we go for these moves tonight getting a Mbemba 4.5m replacement or upgrading Niasse is advisable

Where you at rank wise now?
          Must have won your H2H?
          Still top of the league?
Score of 68 this week? And you were crying about having no DDG
I told you that you were better off this week
          Swings and roundabouts mate ;)

        • @NomdeGuerre I would have though Klopp will put out a full-strength side against Arsenal just before Xmas. Firmino and Cout will almost certainly start this week, being rested(ish) yesterday. So Firmino is a fairly safe pick, I would say. Maybe the Bournemouth game will see more rotation.

Vardy is the main alternative < 9m. Who will get more chances?

        • @NomdeGuerre lovely. These price rises are so unpredictable now.

Regarding the move, Otamendi and Firmino seem like good moves. My skepticism is more around Son tbh, but I agree it’s a week or two punt along with the fact that there doesn’t seem to be too many options in that price. How about David Silva?

Don’t you think Mbemba/Niasse are more of an issue though?

68 points, top of the H2H and creeping up my mini leagues at the moment. Rank wise, I’m now 220k

Haha you’re right although I’m not sure how much longer Pope is good for or how much longer I can get away with double Burnley

        • @shb 220k not bad at all mate
If I had been you I would have abandoned ship week 5 and jumped in the FFF life raft
You must have been thinking WTH have I done
Good on you keeping the faith and you’re being rewarded now

          Agree
Mbemba and Niasse are huge concerns
It’s what’s stopping me pulling the trigger now
Wide open to rotation nightmare of which I suspect there’s a lot coming midweek in advance of the busy Xmas period
Sterling is a huge concern midweek
He’s due some rotation and may come off the bench
That being the case we are wide open to rotation hell
          Sterling rotation
          Mbemba no shown
          Niasse unlikely to start
Kiko injured ( heard anything today at all? )
          Rambo :hurt:
          Rambo has tipped the balance
          Bloody Gooners
Never trust Wenger or his merry band of Gooners

          Need to look now
Been very busy at work so haven’t even logged on today
The 3 move package is great for coming weeks BUT could kill us this week
          Teally don’t know
The sensible thing is Rambo to lower fund replacement
          Mbemba upgraded
Unfortunately nothing works in with price
Need 1.9m to get Mbemba to Otamendi
Can’t buy anything with what’s left
Shaquiri is an option but he’s away to tight Burnley midweek but that doesn’t get us Otamendi

          Gonna look again now
Giving me a headache trying to find a good solution
Rambo has tipped us over the edge

        • @NomdeGuerre Haha, thanks. Arsenal and Sanchez have let me down many a time so I was just used to it tbh. Keeping the faith has worked out though

Regarding Kiko Feminía, seems he is struggling to make midweek: “Kiko is a matter of days. His injury is nothing special, he has some fatigue as well”

Even more worryingly, Marco Silva on Richarlison: “We need to manage him if we feel he’s too tired. He doesn’t look tired but we cannot expect a player with his skills to play at a high level all the time, it is not possible. We need to take care of him, as he’s 20 years old.”

So this week looks like it might be problematic anyway (for everyone really). I agree Otamendi is necessary though, as is getting rid of non-starters and injured players

        • @shb Been on mysejf doing a lot of research on rotation, fitness etc etc
Kiko looks to be out midweek going off Silva comments and as such we need to treat him as out
That doesn’t mean he’s being sold however
He’s good to go from the weekend on good fixtyrsx so he’s staying
Players out Kiko Rambo Mbemba and we assume Niasse
That itself means we play Naughton v Man City
          Not happening
          No chance
          We need a defender
Rambo I’m reading it’s not as bad as we assumed
          Wenger saying it’s nothing serious
Still can’t hold him as these injuries tend to drag on

Looking at alternatives without destroying the team and buying into rotation threat Firmino

Rambo replacement will determine Mbemba replacement

          Found these stats on twitter

◾️BUDGET MIDFIELDERS CREATIVITY STATS (avg per game)◾️

          ????KEY PASSES????
          Shaqiri – 1.86
          Groß – 1.73
          Ramsey – 0.93
          Richarlison – 0.87
          C. Moting – 0.53

          ????????‍♂️CHANCES CREATED????????‍♂️
          Shaqiri – 2.21
          Groß – 2.07
          Ramsey – 1.36
          Richarlison – 1.07
          C. Moting – 0.73

Now we know the Alpine Messi ;) is good at creating
I don’t need stats to tell me about his shooting, seen enough of him this season
In fact Saturday late on he was very unlucky not to score v Spurs

          6.1m current price
He’s a real alternative to Rambo with a few decent fixtures coming
Also on corners too if memory serves

          Thinking Shaquiri in for Rambo
          That’s 1.3m to upgrade Mbemba
Could save some of that to do Niasse to Calvert Lewin 0.3m Required ATM but will be 0.4m after tonight as he’s rising
          Leaves 0.9m to upgrade Mbemba
Need to assess fixtures in this price range

        • @NomdeGuerre damn, didn’t pay much attention to Shaqiri tbh but that does sound convincing. Although Stoke haven’t been in the best of form of late but, as you said, good set of fixtures coming up

          So given up on Otamendi?

        • @shb No
Need him in but still looking at a plan
Push comes to shove Christensen might have to go to Otamendi
          He’s killing us
          Gonna look at things now
Haven’t got a lot of time
          Bloody midweek fixtures
I’ve got the article to do too

        • @NomdeGuerre Caution on Son – super form .. but Poch has rotated him at the most inopportune moments in the past. If he sits out midweek and comes in for City, it won’t be a hit worthy move.

Was looking at him in place of Sane for my team, especially for the DGW but the rotation issues have me rethinking the move ..

        • @A J I think he will start both tbh and after that he’s gone to Pogba but yeah it could happen
Son tends to play in patches
Spurs were like the old Spurs Saturday mainly because of what he brought to the game.
Never known a season like this for rotation
These FPL managers don’t care about us it appears :D

        • @NomdeGuerre He really is the perfect transfer for me too haha. Sane to Son and Mustafi to Otamendi with just enough to do Elliot to Adrian next week..

Just seems too good .. what could go wrong..

    • @Sergio thank you, I thought I was a goner when Silva scored for you.

Not quite sure how I managed to get the draw, but damn, it was a close run thing. Congrats on your high OR by the way.

      • @Kralin2 Thanks, never been this high up the overall ladder!

Silva got yellow carded and lost a bonus point. Could have used those 2 extra points for sure haha.

        • @Kralin2 We should have captained him. I’d probably be much higher than 10k right now if I did. Kane’s recent dry spell didn’t fill me up with confidence and Hazard seemed like an obvious choice.

Honestly though, 54 points with a failed captaincy choice is not bad. It could have been a lot worse haha.

  4. Site team transfers made

    Double change -4

Transfers and reasoning behind them as follows

    Ramsey to Shaqiri
    Kiko to Otamendi

Both outgoing are currrnly injured and Ramsey could be out 3 games given it is a hamstring injury

Kiko we only bought last week and didn’t find out that he was injured until the teamsheets appeared

It’s a minor issue we are informed but one I can’t gamble on given the potential for rotation
I still want Watford def cover however and this can be gained by selling Naughton this weekend
Likely target could be Mariapa for 4.1m
This would allow an upgrade on either Nissse to Calvert Lewin or Mbemba to 4.4m def
Plenty choice these days in that price bracket
    Klavan 4.3
    Kenny 4.3
    Holgate 4.2
    Chilwell 4.3
Masuaku 4.4 to name but a few

Reasoning for Shaqiri and Otamendi is quite simple
Otamendi has been killing me for weeks and he’s one def I’ve wanted for quite some time
Back to back goals and 11 point hauls were the breaking point

Shaqiri is flying under the radar a tad in FPL circles
Priced 6.1m he’s 0.1m more than Groß who we sold after his 10 point haul about 4 weeks back
In that time he’s done nothing thankfully and was hauled off just after 60 mins at the weekend and to me he looks tired
Not an option to bring back in
Shaqiri has been doing well in this period with 3 goals and 3 assists last 7 games, nearly scored Saturday at Spurs but was denied by a great save.
44 points in these 7 weeks isn’t a bad return for a budget mid
The only clubs he’s not scored or assisted in during that spell were top 6 clubs Liverpool and Spurs who he came so close to scoring against

    Next 4 fixtures
    Burnley A
    Hammers H
    WBA H
    Huddersfield A

If Calvert Lewin can come on we can rotate the two
Likely not get to that point as Pogba has to come back in 2 weeks time after his suspension

Otamendi has s great run of fixtures Spurs aside at the weekend

    Swans A
    Spurs H
    Bournmouth H
    Newcastle A
    Palace A
    Watford H
    Liverpool A
    Newcastle H
    WBA H
    Burnley A
    Leicester H

Going to be a lot of points in these games from CS and the odd goal ( he’s scored 4 this season )

    Team for GW17

    • Oh forgot captain

      King Kane once again :D
      Shouldn’t need to explain
Home game v Brighton who shipped 5 at home v Liverpool last week then another 2 at Huddersfield

      VC is Salah
I think he will start but I’m not willing to gamble captaincy on him given Klopp doing a bad impression of Pep rotating the hell out of his team

I will try and get an article up tomorrow but the above basically covers it all

      Good luck to all

      • @NomdeGuerre I like the team….need some advice on defence/GK for my team. This is more long term….. 0.1m ITB…2 FT.
        Pope(4.6), Elliot(4.1)
        Ota(5.8),Christensen(5.4),Mustafi(5.4),Morgan(4.5),Francis(4.4)

I can foresee 2 new issues and 1 existing issue:
        (1) Elliot is benched and Pope’s schedule is getting worse from GW19 – so either I need to replace Pope (but then I don’t have a BUR def) or, get someone to replace Elliot (rotate with Pope – could not find anyone)
        (2) UTD def – The fix is getting better
        (3) Morgan and Francis – Both are reg. starters, but almost with no return

        What should I do?

        • @GoalMachine can I look at this in the morning mate?
Gotta get showered and I can’t do you justice if hurrying
Don’t like to give duff advice so would rather leave till tomorrow if OK?

        • @NomdeGuerre Not an issue…as I am looking at long run advice….we have Elliot (might be going down tonight) and Gomez/Ward (might be going up tonight) among kind of form picks……but its ok to wait.

    • Some data to back up Alpine Messi :D

      Ramsey – 1.36
      Richarlison – 1.07
      C. Moting – 0.73

      • @NomdeGuerre Shaqiri has a very good schedule….I am sad that ECHM is a waste, he had all the potential to score loads of goals….but seems like he does not like to play as CF, rather he likes to take no. 10 role.

  5. Hi guys. Falling behind in my mini league. Please help. I have 2ft and 1.6m itb

    Cech krul
    Otamendi jones Daniels Fernandez ward

    Hazard Richarlison CM RLC salah

    Kane morata niasse

Want to upgrade CM or RLC and get rid of Danielsniasse possibly to. Please help. Happy to take a hit.

    • @GoalMachine
Yes, all main pressies are tomorrow from 11 AM. Jones and Kiko are supposed to be fine. About Mustafi not sure but will see what Wenger can waffle about this. Quite frankly, judging from the last few no one can give any accurate information

      • @IvanTheTerrible I am expecting lot of rotations…so a good bench is important this round. May be even Salah also will be rested, but he is scoring even coming off the bench.

        • @IvanTheTerrible I got the bench, but not strong as they are returning 1-2 pts max….but you know what, yesterday I won the H2H by 1 pt, coming from bench to replace Mustafi. :)

        • @GoalMachine @IvanTheTerrible As long as they play, there’s 6 pts on the bench (+keeper). If we get the odd cleanie or an assist then we’re laughing. Or you can have Otamendi’s 11 pts on the bench like me! :yahoo: :toocool:
