Help My Team for game week 38

Here to help. Post your team and get good constructive feedback on your selections. We will share our thoughts and concerns to help each other build better teams and hopefully win our respective mini-leagues.

How does it work?

Tell us your first 11, bench, cash in the bank and captain as we’ll take a look. We might tell you there is too much money sitting in the bank. We might question if you have the right striker or goalkeeper. We will point out obvious errors like it is rarely a good idea to have a defender as captain. For sure you will be told about the absence of a ‘star’ player and the captain de-jour.

Option 1: Post your team using the Rate My Team Adviser’s algorithm

The most advanced RMT Adviser on the market today is now in “Release 7 Beta”, meaning it has been updated with the latest functionality to help managers for the full season. Based on published research, and capable of machine learning, our Automated Adviser is a powerful analytics tool. Our Points Prediction engine takes into account new signings, formation changes, manager changes, and many other factors.

However, Fantasy Football First’s uniqueness is that as well as the excellent analytics engine, we have excellent FPL managers who’s opinion you can canvas. Data and experts – a powerful winning combination. Check if your team is ready and import your FPL team. Enter your FPL Team Code and import your team direct from the FPL site!

Option 2: Write your team in a comment

Post the players you select in the formation you want to play them, and separately list your subs., transfers and remaining cash in the bank. For example:

Please rate my team:

Baines, Gibson, Azpi
Sigy, Sanchez, Wanyama, Fletcher
Defoe, Lukaku, Kane
Subs: Lloris, Chadli, Morgan and Silva.

Captain: Sanchez and Vice is Defoe.
Money in the bank: £1.5m
Transfers Lloris -> Robles so I have cash to upgrade Wanyama next week

Link your team

Linking your team means anyone can click on your profile image and see your team. This helps because the reviewer can see your transfer history and get a sense of your overall strategy. After all, we don’t want to suggest a player you have just sold.

To link your team

1. get the url of your team from fantasy.premierleague.com. To do this open the game and click on POINTS. In the “Game Week Points” section you will see “View Gameweek history”. Open the Gameweek history page. Copy this URL.

2. Click “Profile” in the footer of the site. This will open your profile page.

The website field is in yellow on the image above.

3. copy the url into the Website field on your profile page and save.

Can YOU help someone?

Keep popping back

As the season progresses we’ll provide all sorts of articles, stats and tables to help everyone to maximise their points potential. We’re also posting updates on who is playing well or playing out of position in the weekly game reviews, thereby giving us all the latest information. The first set of tables are out and will be updated on Thursday. So keep popping back to see the latest player information.

  1. @All…a general question….how many hits you have taken and to what extent those helped you? I have taken 104 points hit which is way too much imo especially compared to the last 2 seasons. I guess 60% of that was helpful and long term….but I could have saved 40 points at least.
    Current Points: 2194
    Current OR: 17,453
Will it be useful if I try to do an analysis and try to make an article for next season on hits?

    • @GoalMachine

I have taken 72 pts worth of hits – more than I usually make.
      Various reasons –

      1. At one point in the season, I was getting players injured or dropped on a (more or less) weekly basis
      2. In the last 6 weeks I have taken 24pts hits as I tried to narrow a 91 point deficit on the leader of my mini-league
      3. One hit that particularly rankled with me was when Ake returned to Chelsea, giving me 4 players from their team. This meant that my next transfer HAD to be to get rid of a Chelsea player, and I was unable to field 11 players at the time due to injuries.

At the bottom of the FF1st Home Page, there is a “write for us” and a “contact us” option. If you drop a line to ChorleyRocks, he will be able to advise you with regards to writing an article

    • @GoalMachine I’ve taken 3 this year so have lost 12 points. I sit slightly ahead of you in the OR (14k) and am 18 points off the top 10k. But the margins are very tight as I’m only 10 odd points ahead of you.

I think hits are ok early in the season when you have to adjust the team to whoever is in form, etc. Later I’m not so sure. The habitual hit takers in my ML never do that well and their team value is often very poor. Also I’ve never seen the point of starting a week -4 down. Often good weeks I’ve had are where I’ve sat on my hands and not made a transfer at all.

Also I think (I could be wrong) that OR is based on hits as well. So say we both finished on 2270 points I would finish ahead of you as I’ve taken less hits.

A personal feeling is if you consistently get lucky with your captain there should be no need for a hit. But as we know, that’s easier said than done.

    • @GoalMachine 68 points for me, I’m at 13k OR. Also, more than I would normally take but that was because I had a healthy lead in my ML from early on, so felt I could be a bit more reckless. Also, I made a terrible mistake chasing the first DGW with Boro players which meant I had to take a lot of hits in short order to fix my team.

      • @OldGoat @Kralin @cdp666 Great…thanks for replying with different perspectives of taking hits….I will probably try to come up with an article on how it impacts considering all these by August. Guess, it will be useful for managers (especially new) next season and also kind of checkpoints for us….though during the season we often deviate from those checkpoints. :)

Do you have exact idea how long the GW / Tfr etc. histories stay….I believe it is 3-4 weeks after GW38 before they reset and keep only the aggregates.

    • @GoalMachine This is a very interesting angle.
I have taken 28 points thus far as hits, current OR 726 – I’ve had a very lucky season!!
I also think, if possible, it’s worth looking at green arrows after the hit… was it worth it?
Most of my hits come through injury and suspension BUT sometimes through frustration and it has cost.

  2. I got a total of 156 points but I got surpassed by a guy in my ML who managed 204. He TC’d Sanchez and the rest of his team did miracles. I’m 4th behind him by just 1 point. I closed the gap to the ML leader by around 10 points but still 50ish points away. :bad:

Buuuuuuut I was thinking Hazard > Couthinho and Alli > Ozil for a hit. What do you think?

  3. 1Ft 0.1 ITB
Had a good DGW but unfortunately so did my rival so I am only 6 points ahead with my rival still having his TC.

How should I maintain my lead?
Thinking of Haz or Gabbs out potentially for Coutinho and Llorente/Origi.

    My rival’s team is:
    Caballero, Hennessey
    Davies, Yoshida, Holding, Bailly, Gibson
    Ndidi, hazard, Sanchez, KDB, JwP
    Kane, Jesus, Negredo

  4. Can I have some advice on trying to catch my mini league leader I’m chasing by 17pts? Little too much to ask maybe considering similar teams.

My team in photo, Rivals predicted team is below

    Schmeicel (Foster)
    Davies, Holding, Luiz, Stephens (Bertrand)
    Hazard, Sanchez, Son, King (Matic)
    Kane, Jesus (Gabbi)

Both have 1FT and bank £0.0

    • @Sir Tinkerman He’ll probably do Hazard to Coutinho

Your defense will be key factor.

Not much can be done with similar sides, get your captaincy right

      • @Zaid yes monitoring his team value as a Liverpool fan so think that could be his exact move but waiting till he makes his move. Any tips for my captain surely has to be Sanchez/Kane but know he’ll do one also?

        • @Sir Tinkerman Considering Kane scored 4 yesterday, Kane will be his captain I guess….

Any player from home game should be preferred I think, they will try to finish the season on high. Will you get Coutinho? Sanchez or Coutinho will do the job since they have something to play for

    • @Sir Tinkerman It’ll probably come down to who you captain. In your shoes I would probably do Hazard / Alli to Coutinho and captain Coutinho or Jesus. I think both Liverpool and Man City will be in full attack mode this weekend and will create plenty of chances; Arsenal have the trickier fixture and Chelsea won’t be quite as focused. Kane – who knows? We could see a repeat of last night but they may be spent now (famous last words).

      • @Kralin I like the Jesus captain idea so will definetly consider this. Going to wait and see if rival puts coutinho in first. Pedro hopefully will get a game.

  5. I already sold Erikssen for Coutinho.
Should I go for -8 pts with
    Costa – Kane
    Ali – King
As I am sure my opponent will make at least -4 pts hit.
Also captain advice is crucial. Now I am only 5 pts behind (was 80+) for the first place

    • @jackthejackal I’d prioritise getting a Liverpool player in – Coutinho for Alli. If you can’t afford Coutinho then take a punt on Lallana. Liverpool will be going for it.

      • @Kralin have coutinho already (sold Erikssen bit not shown on that screenshot)
May be other option is Costa for Sturridge as you advice

        • @jackthejackal ah yes, must pay more attention. Yes Sturridge is a great differential this week and a good captain choice for chasers. Caveat of course being he is a tad injury-prone but worth the risk I would say.

        • As I am just 5 pts behind I think it’s better to play save.
This is the team I have to beat and I think he will spend at least -4 pts
          What you propose ?

  6. 0 FT 1.9 ITB
Currently leadin my league by 6.
    Have already done Haz >Coutinho.
Is it worth upgrading JWP and playing 3-5-2
Upgrade Gabb > Giroud and play 3-4-3?

    • @JoFlorez

You could do Gabb to Origi, but I would monitor your rivals team. Whilst you won’t be able to see who they bring in, it will show you how many transfers they have made.

A 6pt lead is very slender depending on how many players you share with your rival. Good Luck :fingerscrossed:

      • @OldGoat oh do you know where I can see that? Yea tossing up between Origi and Giroud.
        Rival’s team:
        Caballero, Hennessey
        Davies, Yoshida, Holding, Bailly, Gibson
        Ndidi, hazard, Sanchez, KDB, JwP
        Kane, Jesus, Negredo

Dont see them making too many transfers though. Thoughts?

    • @Branchy bring coutinho in.
Liverpool arsenal and city teams have something to play for. They will push it

      • @jackthejackal I think Kane will still be pushing for more goals – so captain Kane.
        Gabb > Origi ?
And should I keep KDB ? Is it worth a -4 to get in Arsenal player?

  7. Hi there, can you advise me on the best move for this rag tag team? I have two free transfers and just 0.3 in the bank. The twist is that I still have my all out attack chip left to use, is it worth paying through the nose to reconfigure my team to make use of it? I’m pretty far behind on my leagues so this would just be push to see where I can finish.

  8. Caballero /picford
    Vertonghen,fuchs, stephens / yoshida, valencia
Ali, Hazard, King, Pedro, Sanchez (vc)
    Rashford, Kane (c) / Gabbiadini

I have 1 ft left and 0.1 itb.
Really confused in the Chelsea Players. will Hazard/Pedro Play or will be given rest. Also eriksen was given rest for spurs. will this sunday be ali’s turn.

    • @crazysidz I would concentrate on your forwards. Rashford almost certainly won’t play and as we know, Gabs is unreliable. I would look at a neat Llorente and Origi swap and leave it there.

      • @Kralin I was also thinking the same. but which one should i go for. Llorente or Origi. i can take only one of them.

      • @Kralin i won my league…thanks you guys so much for the help…llorente really worked..

        • @crazysidz I’m delighted you won your league and that Llorente worked out. I don’t think a huge number went for him and it clearly paid off. I went for Origi, hmm.

  9. My team:
    Lovren, Jagielka
    King, KdB, Son, Hazard, Can
    Kane, Jesus
Subs: Mignolet, Barnes, Maguire, Yoshida, Naughton
    Capt: ????, Vice: ???

I intend on using AOA this week.
I would love to bring in Coutinho, and was considering a swap for Hazard.
I obviously need to ditch a Liverpool player, but should it be Can or Mignolet, to give me a -4 hit.
Or should I swap Can for Fabregas, and get a cheaper goalie?
    0.1m in the bank.
I am 3rd in my league. 19 points behind 2nd place, and 21 points ahead of 4th place.
    Any assistance would be appreciated

    • @hammerfan depends on how you intend playing, if you going double lfc defense then Can, if not then Migno.

Are you sure Coutinho is going to outscore Hazard?

      • @ed209 I need my midfield slightly strengthened, and not sure if Can is good enough. Will Hazard play?
Barnes is my slightly weaker striker, so thought it may be better to go more midfield

    • What is everyones opinion on Hazard->Coutinho.
Liverpool have something to play for, and not 100% sure Hazard will play 90 mins.
If Cout is the way to go, should I ditch Can or Mignolet.
I need a strong team for All Out Attack,
I am 21 points ahead of my rival.
      Any suggestions

      • @hammerfan 21 points ahead is good as it puts the onus on the people behind you to take risks. I’m a bit further ahead than you in my league but am puzzling over Hazard myself. He’s played a lot recently. I think you’re pretty safe dropping him for Coutinho and leaving it at that.

      • @hammerfan ah, just saw you aren’t in fact in the lead. Hmm. Still go for the Coutinho move. Play Yoshida. Maybe captain Coutinho.

        • @Kralin What I meant was, I am 21 points ahead of the league I am in, sorry.
If I go Hazard->Coutinho, I need to drop Can as I would have 4 liverpool players.
That would leave me with 6.7m in the bank for a midfielder
Would Clyne & Naughton be better as my back 2?

        • @Kralin Sorry mate, I do have Lovren (senior moment!!)
Who do I ditch, Can or Mignolet, as would like to keep Lovren for my back 2
