Advice Key Facts

Arsenal CrestArsenal

Review

A fairly routine 2-0 win for Arsenal. However, Bournemouth did come close to scoring a few times. The return of Alexis Sanchez has in fact aided Mesut Ozil. Ozil has found himself influencing games even more in lieu of the added attention offered to Sanchez on the wings. Petr Cech has added a lot of calm to the gunners’ back line and pulled off a few important saves to keep the gunners ahead. The fixtures are a mixed bag but however you can keep the gunners to come out top in most of them.

Tips

Hold Ozil. He looked tired a few weeks back but the return of Sanchez has ensured he gets more space and more freedom and he’s found himself in more goal scoring positions these past few games. Giroud owners could get rid with better options elsewhere especially with vary returning to some form again and Lukaku having scored last week.

The 2-0 home defeat to Arsenal has kept the Cherries not quite out of the relegation fight, just 5 points above 18th place. No clean sheets for three weeks but only the second goal blank for new boy Afobe. The next two fixtures offer some potential and in fact the next five are reasonable.

Tips

£4.6m Daniels has scored 2 goals and 4 assists this season and could be a handy 5th defender to have on board for the next few fixtures. Elsewhere, consider £5.4m Afobe with 3 goals in his first 5 premier league fixtures.

An entertaining 1-1 draw at home and a 91st minute equalizing goal from Diego Costa helped keep Chelsea’s unbeaten run under Guus Hiddink going. However, Oscar showed us the downside to owning him as he was quite anonymous throughout the game, stranded on the left wing and being replaced on 55 mins by Hazard. Fabregas’ influence increased in the second half and he provided the through ball for the Costa goal. He looks to be controlling games again but has failed to return any points in the last 3.

The introduction of Hazard changed the game as he made part of a dynamic front 3 with Willian, Fabregas and then Pedro in what seemed like a return to confidence and a semblance of last season’s form. Though only current and consistent asset worth considering is Costa. In defence they have lost Zouma out for 6 months but have looked a bit more stable off late , defence can be put on the watch list.

Tips

Sell Zouma. Look at Costa if you are looking to play a 3-4-3 or looking for a replacement for Giroud, Kane or Lukaku with a bit of cash in hand. Place the midfield on watch list.

1-1 draw to Swansea last weekend but with 3 excellent fixtures coming up. Pardew’s men haven’t kept a clean sheet in 2016 so at £5.8m defender Dann is probably slightly expensive despite scoring 6 goals already this season.

Tips

If you fancy Dann to continue his goal prowess; buy buy buy. Otherwise there’s no one else of note; strikers aren’t striking, defenders aren’t (defending).

Gerard Deulofeu who looked to be a good fantasy prospect has not played one minute in the last three in all competitions. According to sources, this is because Roberto Martinez is giving him a break because he has looked fatigue recently. He should be placed on your watch list once he starts playing regularly again.

Lukaku broke his six game Premier League scoring drought. For managers that kept faith in him, he should kick on now that he is fully fit after a back injury. The Everton defence who decided not to defend for the first half of the season have accumulated three consecutive clean sheets in all competitions. The forgotten man Aaron Lennon has had a new years resurrection with 3 goals and 1 assist in his last three.

Tips

Fixtures for the next couple are decent. A buy for a defender would not be a bad idea. My recommendation is Baines. Keep hold of Lukaku. League chasers should look at Lennon as a short-term punt whilst he is on form.

The fairy-tale continues. Time to take the Foxes a but more seriously for title contenders? You bet! Going to their biggest rivals for an early title-decider should have made them a bundle of nerves? But they went to the most feared ground in the land and ripped apart a City team full of world-class (at least in attack) players. Mahrez shone, the defence came very very close to a clean sheet only to be let down with poor refereeing and the whole team came together as a unit and completely outplayed their opponents. They look defensively solid and you should consider buying a defender with Simpson priced the cheapest at 4.2m

Tips

Hold on to Mahrez and Vardy as the growing possibility of watching a miracle turn into reality stares everyone in the face. Buy defensive cover if possible with 5 clean sheets in the last 7 games. Fuchs is their most attack minded defender however people on a tight budget can go for the cheaper alternatives in Huth(4.5m) and Simpson (4.2m)

Drawing 2-2 with Sunderland wouldn’t have made Klopp happy especially having led them 2-0. People are beginning to see the difficulty of the task at hand as the Klopp mania is seemingly flittering away. The defence is in absolute shambles and the can’t seem to hold on against any sort of opposition, in any sort of match condition.

Roberto Firmino is beginning to show consistency after a very disappointing first half of the season. He has scored 5 goals and 2 assists in the last 5 games however he only tends to score in alternative games. So, consistency might still be an issue but is a good punt with still only 15.2% ownership at the time of writing.

Tips

Sell defence after Villa game. Possibly buy Firmino but beware of the blank game week after Villa away.

1-3 at home is just the result that you would expect from City when they are challenging for the title. Nevertheless, Aguero scored again and if he is not in your team, he needs to be. Without Vincent Kompany, the defence is a no-go. Due to the Sky Blues being in the Capital One Cup Final against Liverpool, they will have a blank game week on the 28th February.

De Bruyne is still out. The only recommendation is Sergio!

Lots more positive play in recent weeks to gives us FPL managers something to consider. 1-1 against Chelsea was a fair result, even though they were minutes from keeping a clean sheet. Surprisingly for a “top 4” side they are lots of inexpensive options for the 4 good fixtures in the next 5.

Tips

Considering £4.0m defender Borthwick-Jackson and £4.3m midfielder Lingard. Both excellent value for their recent returns. £10m Rooney is expensive but is continuing to justify his price tag. I’m still not fully convinced United are reliable so I favour the former, cheaper, alternatives.

Mitrovic is slowly getting in to the groove with excellent performances off late and the goal vs West Brom. Newcastle also have a blank game week in GW27 and are currently not in the best of form. They have a kind fixture list after the BGW , bench if possible till then.

Tips

You can possibly buy after the Stoke fixture and hold if you own any assets now and can afford to bench till that time. Put Mitrovic on the watch list and Shelvey could be a good 5th midfielder option with the occasional assist/goal.

I was at Villa Park on the weekend and whilst it was an advantage for me personally that Norwich were terrible, anyone who owns any players should be disgusted. Steven Naismith worked his hardest but looked to have no end product. Other than that, the Canaries did not look like a Premier League side, or a professional football team for that matter! They made Aston Villa look like a team who have a chance to stay up and not one team has done that so far this season!

5 clean sheets in a row and with Chelsea the only danger in the next few fixtures, you should be buying a defender. If you don’t have a defender, buy one. If you already have one, buy another! It seems the Saints are regaining the defensive form that saw Clyne and Bertrand some of the most owned players in Fantasy Football last season.

In attack, it seems that there is no consistency with one individual. Mane, Long and Tadic all deliver big points and then return poorly for a few games. We will need to wait until Austin becomes a regular before we can consider him.

The 1-0 win over Watford has proved that Spurs deserve to be taken seriously this season, sitting 2nd in the league table. Kane, Alli, Ericksen and Alderweireld have all given owners reasons to be cheerful in recent weeks but could Man City be party poopers this weekend?

Tips

Given City’s recent defeat to Leicester it’s hard to say which City side will turn up. Either way I suggest owners consider playing your Spurs attacking players and rest your defenders, while investors wait a week before buying.

Stoke have lost three successive games by 3 goals to nil! Decembers “must haves” have become February’s “must nots”.

Interestingly, Hughes’ Stoke produce only an average of only one more shot on goal per game than Pulis’ Stoke. Something to keep in mind when thinking about buying into the attackers.

8 points from 4 games is good going for a “new manager effect”. Francesco Guidolin has guided Swansea to a level of stability and they look in a good position to survive the drop.

Gylfi Sigurdsson has been directly involved in 4 of the last 6 goals that the Swans have scored. He is on penalty duties and on free-kicks and should be considered as a buy. The defence is not worthy of consideration and with the next three fixtures being extremely tough, you should look elsewhere.

Tips

Don’t look at the defence. Consider to buy Sigurrdson.

This may offend many West Brom fans but they are a very boring team. The positions that they have finished in previous seasons, the style of play, it seems that they are satisfied with mid-table mediocrity.

In terms of Fantasy Football, this strategy works with their defenders but the West Brom attack is something you avoid for the whole season. Focusing on the defence, the Baggies have kept 3 clean sheets in the last 18 in all competitions. The mainlanders face 3 of the top 5 in the next five plus Everton at Goodison Park. The omens are not good.

Although Payet signed a 5-year contract in the summer, the hierarchy are looking to extend his stay as they have opened talks with the French wizard to keep him at the London club amid rumours of a £38 million bid from a Chinese club.

The Hammers have only kept one clean sheet in the last five Premier League outings but could be looked at as a short-term option for the next two. Carl Jenkinson is a long term absentee with an ACL injury which opens the door for either James Tomkins or Sam Byram to claim his spot at right-back. Diafra Sakho and Manuel Lanzini are likely to return to action for the visit to Norwich on Saturday. Both players should be placed on your watch list to see how they perform. Dimitri Payet will be looking to get back to the form he showed at the start of the season.

Tips

Buy Dimi Payet. Also, place Sakho and Lanzini onto your watch list. Consider a short term punt for a Hammers defender.

  1. Someone tell there’s only one Zorro. :zorro: Guus via the Beeb.

‘We are a team of Zorros’

Some more quotes from Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink, who explains the incident that saw Diego Costa break his nose in training after going for a header.

“Diego got in a duel on the pitch, got his nose broken,” said Hiddink. “It was one of the youngsters in the academy, we like them to participate in the game. Diego put his nose on the back of the player and was very unlucky.

“His nose was broken, but he will return today, he will have a mask on. We are a team of a lot of masks – we’re a Zorro team. Azpi (Cesar Azpilicueta), Matic and now Costa.

“He will come back in the hotel later. It was just a very small incident, it was nothing. I think he will be available, I hope, I’m not sure, but I think he will be available.”

    • @Secret Zorro

Blame Cesc Fabregas. He wore a mask last season, and all the players decided they wanted one as well. Mourinho probably said “no” to them all, so they refused to play for him.

Plenty of Zorros’, but only one Secret Zorro :tiphat:

I asked you yesterday something but you must have missed the post. I did all your suggestions. Main team Silva-Lingard and team B Zouma-Huth. I am not sure about Khazri for Deu. Any other options for My Rules?

        • @IvantheTerrible

Defo get rid of Deulofeu, as he isn’t a regular starter, plus Everton have a Blank GW27.

Pugh at Bournemouth? 1 goal and 2 assists in his last 4 games. Bournemouth have Stoke and Watford up next
Kante at Leicester? After Arsenal, they have Norwich, West Brom and Watford.
Affelay at Stoke? Scraping the barrel a bit, but they have Bournemouth and Villa up next.

What happened to all those world-beaters that were coming to the Premier League in the January window?

        • @OldGoat
I was stuck between Kante and Stan but I think the first one is a better choice. I am going with Kante.
About the January newbies, half of them lack of match fitness :idunno:
