Fantasy Football Tips for FPL Double Game Week 37 2016

You may think this is your last chance to gain a lead, with it being a double game week: but it’s not. Many a manager throws caution to the wind at this stage of the season with disastrous consequences.

Only two seasons ago I was ranked under top-10k in the world. In a last ditch attempt to break into the top-5K I made too many moves for the final DGW and then used the excuse “I’m having fun” to justify what were blatantly risky moves in GW38. I finished the season ranked a disappointing top-26k. If you ask me now, I’d have rather played safe and finished top-8k.

So check out our tips and decide if you want to be the type of exciting muscle-bound hunk-of-a-manager who risks a 16K drop for a potential 5k gain, or if you want to let others do that while you leap-frog them in your nerdy wooly-jumper.

Join us as we look at fixture difficulty, head-to-head history, team form and a host of other data to form opinions on how games are likely to play-out and who is best placed for points. Our Fantasy Football tips are to help you choose the right players and avoid common mistakes.

Let’s cast an eye over the upcoming game week of Premier League fixtures and pick out the choice players for this week, and the players we feel make good transfer targets next week and there after.

1-0 victory at home to Norwich was a rather underwhelming result for the large amount of expectations that all the FPL managers had. The play from Arsenal was rather insipid and slow and Norwich could defend easily. Giroud hasn’t scored in his last 15 premier league games and looked woefully out of form and thus his selection over Welbeck has been baffling to say the least. Maybe its a case of getting the French forward to start firing before the Euros in the absence of Karim Benzema. The fixtures are City away and Villa at home and thus they still deserve consideration with making a top 3 spot their own still pending.

Tips

Hold your aces for the Villa home game. Look to replace Gabriel with a DGW player if possible.

Let’s start with the good news; they are safe! The Cherries have ensured their survival in the Premier League after reaching the magical 40 point marker. More good news is that they play West Brom this week. Even more good news is that 4.3 million, King, has scored twice and assisted once in the last four weeks. But then the bad news…just look at that clean sheet record! Awful!

Tips

I don’t think you need any Bournemouth players in your team unless you need a cheap 5th midfielder. In which case- King is your man.

An over heated encounter against Spurs showed both the sides of the Chelsea game this season. Awful defending from Ivanovic in particular led to goals on a couple of occasions and they looked all but down and out at the end of first half. However, the arrival of Hazard in the second half saw a complete shift in momentum for the West London side. It only further helped that Spurs had begun to wither under the pressure put on them by Chelsea leading to some unsavoury scenes both during and after the game. They are a part of the DGW and with the players starting to get into the groove for the Euros they might be a good punt and great differentials too.

Tips

Wait until Friday if you are possibly looking to get Chelsea players in as the heated encounter might see quite a few suspensions being handed out. However, I wouldn’t be surprised to see almost all of them going the way of the Spurs squad. My picks would be Fabregas, Costa and Hazard.

Ah Everton, how many times will I be burnt by buying your players? Too many is the answer. The perennial ‘almost’ men are at it again, on paper they seem to have strong players but they are never far from a spot of madness in form. Just when the fixtures looked great for the double double in GW33 & 34 their form jumped off a cliff. The lesson to be learnt from this is FORM is key. So as we face another double game week for Everton, you’ll forgive me for not being very excited; Lukaku did not score in April and only a 0-0 against Crystal Palace could produce a clean sheet in recent memory.

Tips

..but the fixtures!? Yes, the fixtures are good with Norwich and Bournemouth on the cards but still the form is not there. I’m sure they will pick up something in the remaining fixtures so if you really must take a punt on them then go with proven scorers (Baines, Lukaku). Personally I would not buy but probably hang on to any assets you already have. Martinez saw through his promise of giving Howard farewell match time so owners of Robles beware…

As it turns out we have seen a 5000:1 possibility turned into reality by Claudio and his boys. It is imperative to see now if Claudio rings in the changes or sticks to the tried and tested formula. A 1-1 draw was enough for them to seal the title with Spurs being held at the Bridge. This is perhaps the only time there will be uncertainty in selection this season. Keep an eye on this one.

Tips

Look to replace with DGW players with all the uncertainty surrounding selection.

Its hard to call given City play tonight. They still need 4th place in the league so my feeling is we have two scenarios: scenario 1 is City make the CL final, in which case they’ll field a “just strong enough” team in GW37 to get clearance for the 4th CL spot; scenario 2 is they don’t make the CL final in which case all the big guns will play in GW37 to secure the 4th spot. Either way, as long as the 4th spot is obtained then in GW38 expect a swan song for the players who are leaving.

Tips

Hold your city players don’t buy until tomorrow. Iheanacho has scored 4 in 2 games so makes a fun punt, while none of the others appeal.

Man United CrestMan United

Review

Man United are the kind of team I want to take a gamble on in the double game week if at all possible. They still have a chance at top four and have no other concerns. They should be going all out to win their last three matches, however, as we’ve all come to realise this season, just about anything is possible with this United. My main issue is they just don’t score enough goals. That said, they’ve not gone more than 3 weeks without keeping a clean sheet this season so they should make a safe bet in that department.

Tips

I would still take a gamble on United. De Gea in goal seems a natural starting point with their stingy defence, as does Valencia who seems to have cemented himself as first choice right back (cue an unexpected rest) and has provided two assists in the last three weeks. In midfield things become trickier with Fellaini likely out with a ban and everyone else a pure punt. Up front it’s a straight choice between Martial and Rashford since Rooney is playing much deeper in midfield. A common pattern in recent weeks has seen LVG start Martial on the wing and then move him up front after taking Rashford off. If that continues I think, Martial, could be worth buying as he is central to United’s good play of late. Plus, they are playing Norwich this week…

The Magpies have taken 8 points from their last four Premier League games. This included games against Liverpool and Man City! Andros Townsend has 3 goals in his last five and should be worth considering for the last two games. Newcastle have only kept 7 clean sheets this season but under Rafa Benitez, they have better structure and stability. You should consider to buy a defender ahead of the trip to Villa Park on Saturday.

Consider Townsend and a defender.

Spurs lost the title on a Monday Night where Mark Clattenburg had an extremely busy night. Eric Dier received his 10th yellow card of the season, Moussa Dembele may be charged by the FA for an altercation with Diego Costa, Erik Lamela stood on Fabregas’ hand, Danny Rose pushed Guus Hiddink over and Kyle Walker was lucky to stay on the field! Tottenham received 9 yellow cards on the night and Mauricio Pochettino also got involved by running onto the pitch! Dele Alli is already banned for the rest of the season and I would be extremely surprised if no one else joins him. Stay away until the FA makes a decision about the events against Chelsea.

Chasing a Euro Vase place and Southampton only 2 points behind; but the real risk is if Liverpool win the Eurovase and pick up a CL spot, meaning West Ham could miss out. So a team with something to play for.

Recent performances have inspired with goals from Carrol, Noble, Kouyate etc. Expect them all to want to get in on the act.

Tips

I think Sturridge is a better bet than Carroll, but I think your midfield must have Payet and should have one from Noble, Lanzini or Antonio.

  1. Am I mental to be considering transferring Sanchez out for Mark Noble?? Using my TC this week, so can’t play all 5 mids as well as Studge, Kun and Kane. Noble seems likely to bag some decent points. Alternatively I could take Carroll/Defoe/ Costa for Kun. Opinions? Other transfer will probs be Gabriel to Valencia.

  2. Guys any transfer suggestions?
(Also have my triple captain n AOA chips available)

  3. I have a couple of decisions to make.

I’m thinking of transferring Kane out for a DGW player. Who should I opt for?
    1. Carroll
    2. Defoe
    3. Deeney

And should I take a 4 point hit to get in a DGW defender? I want to sell Delaney and get either
    1. Smalling or Valencia (which one?)
    2. Cresswell
    3. Get both for an 8 point hit.

    Thanks!

    • @Overbeck FC

I would get Defoe and Cresswell.
Defoe because he is Sunderlands main source of goals, and they have to win games or get relegated.
Cresswell for his attacking potential over Smalling. Valencia has only played in Man Utd last 3 games, and we all know how Luis loves to change players around, especially if they have done well in their previous couple of games.

    • @Overbeck FC I may be proved wrong on this but my feeling on Defoe is that Sunderland don’t / won’t score many goals. So squeaking a goal a game is a good return for Defoe but Carroll has more chance of big points in the last 3 games.

  4. Aguero for Porridge?? liverpool double GW but is he too risky? i’m 5 points behind the leader for a big win, i have his best players, and the rest of my team is 100% better than his, so is it worth the risk? thoughts please:

I have used my transfer this week already so anything further is a hit for me, he has 2 free transfers still to use.

    Also advice on captain :idunno:

    • @brendanroberts For a 8 point hit i was thinking:

      Aguero > Sturridge

      &

      Erikssen > Hazard

Something is holding me back tho, something is saying i can still gain the 5 points and more not dong this for a risky 8 point hit. I’m not happy with my players on the bench they seem a waste, but i have no where to put them on the field…

    • @brendanroberts

      Make Payet your Captain.

How about running BOTH teams through the Rate My Team machine to see how many points it reckons each will get?
Five points is nothing and can easily be picked up in a single GW. So unless the RMT gives your rival a 30 point lead over you, I would hold off taking any hits.

      • @OldGoat yeah i think it maybe a little too risky widening the lead. i’ve heard Depay may be coming in for last few games instead of Lingard, 2 out of his 3 on bench don’t play, Lukaku possibly still rubbish and Alderweireld possibly injured.

If all above is true and two transfers he has to make, then he’s either gonna take a hit on points bringing more people in or not going to have a very good week.

I’ll run them through RMT now see what it says but i don’t know his up-comin team.

also would you have put the same people on the bench? I chose Koscielny over bellerin only for the reason his slightly better form and just to mix it up a bit as he also will have Bellerin i suspect i doubt arsenal will keep a clean sheet though.

      • @OldGoat I don’t know what to look for on RMT  I’ve never used it maybe this?

        His team:

        Week 37 38
        Your Rating 63.85% 81.62%
        Highest Rating 88.33% 90.74%
        Average Rating 48.02% 54.67%

        My team:

        Week 37 38
        Your Rating 68.44% 81.84%
        Highest Rating 88.33% 90.74%
        Average Rating 48.01% 54.64%

        • @brendanroberts

At the side of the screen on RMT, there is a list of players (rather like the transfer section of the Fantasy Premier League site), and the expected points tally for the next few games.
It is a slightly laborious task, but you will be able to see the predicted points for every player. You can then add up your total and his total to give a rough idea of how many points each is expected to get.
Of course he may change some of his team, but any guide/indication as to how your team will perform against his team will be helpful.

My eyes can’t quite make out your benched GK. But as he has a DGW, would he be better than Schmichel?
Play Bellerin over Koscielny. That way you cancel out any potential extra points your opponent could get. Remember – 5 points is easy to make up, but you don’t want him to be getting further ahead.

      • @OldGoat ah ok, i think i got it:

        His team:
        37: 57.53
        38: 48.16

        My Team:
37: 56.96 (seems a bit low considering DGW players)
38: 43.51 (also seems a bit low considering arsenal play Villa)

ok so RMT, is saying his team will win…i’ve been gaining 10+ points on his team for a while now, is this thing broke or am i doing something wrong? lol

  5. Quick question before prices change if anyone is on – chasing nearly 40pt lead so figure I should take a few risks! Playing AOA this week. Based on 0 budget and hazard looking like he’ll go up tonight I’m thinking of:
    Milner > Hazard
    Aguero > Sturridge
    Ighalo > Defoe
This would cost me -8pt. Or wait till tomorrow’s result and swap Firmino instead of Milner ….or do :
Alderweireld > PVA/Valencia for an extra -4pt hit to make funds???
    Cheers

      • @ChorleyRocks cheers Chorley, hazards price didn’t rise so still got the option? Gotta swap a pool midfielder to put Sturridge in – anyone you’d recommend over hazard for a big point haul this weekend?? I’ve got Ozil, Sanchez, Payet, Firmino and Milner
        Cheers

        • @Kev81 picking the one point winner for one week is tricky. It’s fine over a 3 or 4 week period, but tipping over such a short spell is hard.

I think stick to teams with something to play for. So City, Spurs, Arsenal and United are fighting for CL slots. Southampton and West Ham are fighting for Euro Vase slots, while Liverpool (currently) are pinning their hopes on tonight’s game to get into the CL so PL is less of a focus. Newcastle, Sunderland and Norwich have relegation to avoid too.

So on top of your current list, you are looking at midfielders Antonio, Noble and Lanzini; Hoolihan; and Khazri.

Try the RMT Machine. Click on “PS” on the Player Filter, as PS means Predicted Score. This should give you some ideas.

        • @ChorleyRocks yeah cheers I keep playing about with RMT ….although it keeps telling me to stick with Ighalo!?!??hmmm
Could just do Aguero to martial but just doesn’t feel as exciting?

  6. Hi guys.

Is it worth taking a 4pt hit for the following.

    Sakko – Creswell
    Milner – Townsend

I could do sakko to any other west ham defender for no hits. Worried about milners game time, its been hit and miss recently.

Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

    • @lFC123 or I could maybe do the following.

      Sakko – creswell
      Aguero – sturridge

Do you think courtinho and milner will play though?

    • @lFC123 Wait to see if Liverpool get through. If they do, transfer 2 out (and I’d keep Milner over Coutinho personally) If not, I’d say just lose Sakho.

      • @Point Chev Red thanks, do you think leave Sturidge then. Trying to work out who will score more, ageuro, sturidge or Kane.

        • @lFC123 Its hard but if Liverpool get through then it simply won’t be a dgw for any of their players! I think it’s hard to bet against aguero this week.
